Apart from a girlfriend I had at playscheme when I was about 8, until July 2003 I spent my whole life single and I absolutely HATED valentine's day, in my opinion it's just an opportunity for couples to look down their noses at single people, so I want as little to do with it as possible. So why am I putting this in the sports section? Well, my team Arsenal are playing on Valentine's Day and it's on Scum Sports which we've got at home. It's a weeknight but I'm still watching it because like I said, I'm against Valentine's Day anyway. I've already told my girlfriend and she understands. Anyway, someone elsewhere on another messageboard said to someone that as long as you're tru to your partner all year round you should be ok on Valentine's Day no matter what and I like to think I'm certainly that. Anyway, just thought I'd get it off my chest...

Two people taking time to acknowledge they're happy together is looking down at someone else?

Wow.
I was a bit sweeping wasn't I? Maybe closer to the truth is it's been hijacked by people who are like that. As for love, I really don't think I need a day in the year to remind my gf that I love her, I like to think we do that every day of the year.

Not really. Maybe it was a bit pre-emptive, I just refuse to miss watching my team play for the sake of what I sometimes refer as "St Bigots day"! And why would I be bitter about couples if I'm in one

You are bitter. St. Bigot's day? Come on - people that choose to do something with their significant other on Valentine's day don't really care one way or the other what other people are doing or not doing. They're doing their thing.
Until last year, you were single, so maybe that's what's made you this way.

okay let me put it differently - I have no problem with valentines day as an existance, but I think it kind of puts pressure on people in couples to give up a day of their life for it to "prove" their love for the other person. I feel I more than justify not having to do so for the rest of the year. The "st Bigots day" thing is a joke - I guess it's the sort of thing you need to say in person for people to realise.

Exactly, somehow the industry has even got it into the heads of some people that a valentines card has gotta be bought!
