And it looks like Ariza is going to Houston. Pretty big blow to Cleveland to fail to land either swingman.
The only potential problem I see with Artest in LA is he has a tendency to take a LOT of shots (and only shot 40 percent from the field last year). If he can restrain himself a bit, take mostly open threes and play great defense, then this is a huge pickup for the Lakers. Pretty much cancels out any ground the Spurs gained in the Jefferson trade and keeps them the favorite again for next year. Assuming they can afford to keep Odom now.
Artest is essentially replacing Ariza, which is a huge upgrade for LA. Swingmen like him have a tendency to fall into place when they get into a rotation with guys that are better than him. He took too many shots in Houston cuz he thought he had to, which, with Yao and McGrady on continual deathwatch he kinda did, made sense. But he's just gonna be a shutdown defender that gets a solid 15 pts per game now. LA will repeat, I don't see how they don't.

They definitely are the favorites next year, no doubt. I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs win the West if they manage to stay healthy. I think they're maybe the only other team who got clearly better this off-season.
I'm pretty disappointed in Cleveland's inability to get anyone other than Shaq. Are there any wings left after Ariza and Artest?

Don't forget about the Spurs next year. They basically played without Ginoboli for the entire season and are adding Jefferson. They are going to bake a big run next year.

Sources: LeBron says he'll stay By Chris Broussard ESPN The Magazine
The Cleveland Cavaliers got some bad news followed by some potentially terrific news on Sunday. In a last-ditch effort to recruit Trevor Ariza away from the Houston Rockets, LeBron James told Ariza he would remain with the Cavaliers past 2010, according to a person close to Ariza.
