Former coach Holtz mulls run for Congress ESPN analyst, 72, would enter race in Florida as Republican
ORLANDO, Fla. - Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz is mulling a run for Congress in Florida as a Republican, a GOP strategist said Tuesday.
Holtz could decide in the next several weeks whether to seek the central Florida congressional seat held by Democrat U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, said the strategist who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to talk about the matter.
The 72-year-old Holtz has never run for office. He has worked as an analyst at ESPN since retiring from his last coaching stint at the University of South Carolina at the end of the 2004 season.
Holtz is the only coach to guide six schools to a bowl game, and he led Notre Dame to its last national championship in 1988. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame last year.
A call to Holtz’s home in Orlando was not returned Tuesday night.
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz wouldn’t go into the specifics of Holtz’s contract and how a run for public office would affect his work.
“Each situation is different and it’s pretty much speculative at this point what it would mean, but he tells us that he is committed to ESPN,” Krulewitz said.
Republican leaders in central Florida were surprised that Holtz was considering a run for the seat since he hasn’t been involved with the local party, said Lew Oliver, chairman of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee in Orlando.
“I doubt sincerely that 90 percent of the people who live in that district have heard the name before,” Oliver said. “It would be different if the guy was named Bob Griese or Don Shula, or someone with Florida connections.”
Three other Republicans — two state legislators and a local city commissioner — already plan to run for the GOP nomination.

I think it's at about this moment where someone like Ellis would request pictures of UW cheerleaders for comparison.
There's a couple hot ones each year...nothing to post on RM about, sadly.
It pains me to say it...but the Oregon cheerleaders are pretty much impossible to beat.

Overall, pretty decent. As usual, they have Notre Dame too high. I'm glad that Kansas barely missed the cut, and I'm kind of skeptical that Ole Miss is really a top ten team, but may be able to buy it.
I was going to joke that the six coaches who didn't vote for Florida should have to apologize to Tim Tebow, but ESPN never ceases to amaze me. Craig James just questioned the legitimacy of the coaches poll because Florida was not a unanimous number one pick.

Retired coaches should vote on the poll. Coaches have too much to do to vote anyway Assistants are the ones that do that stuff and coaches sign off on it, just ask Steve Spurrier. So the guy washing the jocks at 1AM is also very likely filling out the poll. Another reason I detest preseason polls.

ND is not too high this year because they play almost a softer schedule than Penn State. They should win 10 games.... or they should fire the Fupa.
Alabama I don't think should be 5th with a brand new QB and new starters on the OL but thier defense is certainly top 5.
LSU is WAY too high... let's see if Jordan Jefferson can handle the season first. Cal has Best, but I think Oregon is better.
Meh, this will all be vastly different after week 1. We get Alabama and Va Tech and also Oklahoma State and Georgia. That should be a nice little shakeup.
I hate that these rankings play into the national championship picture.
I thought people bitching about USC worship was bad.
