VANEK OUT 3-4 WEEKS WITH FRACTURED JAW
Mike Jafari Reporting
BUFFALO, NY (WGR 550) -- Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced that Thomas Vanek fractured his jaw when he was hit in the face with a puck during the Ottawa Senators game. Vanek had successful surgery on his jaw in Buffalo, and will be sidelined for at least 3-4 weeks.
After just four shifts, Vanek had to leave the Sabres-Senators game early after he was blasted in the face from an Anton Volchenkov slap shot in the first period. The Sabres lost the game 3-2 in the shoot-out.
Vanek was the second Sabre to suffer a jaw injury, as veteran defenseman Teppo Numminen suffered a similar injury on January 17th, against the Carolina Hurricanes. Numminen, who was also hit in the face with the puck, was held out of the line-up until February 4th's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Vanek has been one of the Sabres' best players this year recording 52 points in 54 games. Vanek is also tied for second in the league in scoring with 32 goals, and was named to the NHL All-Star game last month.
There is no word yet on whether or not the Sabres will call up a player from Portland or make a different roster move to replace Vanek's offense.

Last year I drove through Buffalo on a Friday at 5PM last summer, realizing this ahead of time I prepared my wife by saying we might get caught up in some traffic and might add some time to the trip thinking it was a big city...... We got to Buffalo and drove right through it in record time with only seeing a dozen cars.
