Of all the records in sports, I'd like to present the one that I truly believe is untouchable.
NHL Career Points
Let's just agree that the NHL lockout gets settled and everything returns to normal. Wayne Gretzky's record of 2,857 points will never be touched.
Had Wayne never scored a goal in his entire NHL career, he would STILL lead Gordie Howe by 113 points.
Oh, Wayne also holds the record for most goals, a slightly approachable 894. 894 goals? How many is that? 18 seasons of 50 goals. That's all! Only 3 players even scored 40 goals last season. How many seasons of 40 goals? 22.5 or so. An entire 23 year career leading the league every single season.
Just HOW great is this record?
Gretzky scored 54% more points than the second place holder, Gordie Howe.
Follow me, if you will:
This is equivalent to Hank Aaron having 1170 home runs, not 755.
This is equivalent to Peyton Manning having 78 TD passes in a season.
This is equivalent to Michael Jordan averaging 46 points per game, FOR HIS CAREER.
This is equivalent to Pete Rose having 6451 hits.
How about a 107 HR season in MLB? Or a 92 HR season if you're concerned about supplements and 'roids Not even Bonds and McGwire having a love child can pop out 107 HRs.
Perhaps a 3181 rushing yard season from Eric Dickerson?
A 7,482 yard passing season for RoboQB?
There's no way in hell this record ever gets broken.
Wayne Gretzky is the greatest athlete in the history of team sports, and I can't imagine anyone approaching his records, ever. It's not just that he holds so many records in his sport, it's how inconcievable it is for most of them to ever be broken. He didn't just set records. He set ones that will never, ever be conquered.

No arguments here. I also don't think his single season marks will ever be touched.
Yeah, not to mention he holds 61 overall records in his sport. Freaky.
Maybe some of Jerry Rice's numbers, but with the passing game being more imporntant now than it was during the early days of the NFL, Rice's records are Marvin Harrison's to take

Wow, I did not know that. Even though he wasn't my favorite player, I had a tremendous amount of respect for his athletic ability.
I also think that he was a great role model for younger players. Not just because of his skills, but because he was a really classy player.
I remember his last game, I cried like a little girl.

Yeah, I was going to say that I thought Unitas's consecutive games with a TD might be in the unbreakable realm, but I just don't know about that when the secondary can't really play defense anymore.

Of course Gretsky's record will never be broken, the NHL is done for.
Of the breakable unbreakable records, I gotta go with Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak.
Dude, this was with the caveat that the NHL is coming back Even so, there will be major pro hockey in North America within 2 years, and the NHL records will be the standards for it.
Dimaggio's record is probably #2 on any list I would make

*cheers for Sidney Crosby*
but seriously, Gretzky is untouchable. He broke the goals record against my Canucks, too.

I am pretty sure that OJ's record of TWO murders in one night will never be broken by a professional football player. Ray Lewis came close, killing that one guy the night of the Super Bowl a few years back. But two..thats just amazing.
