yeah, lets compare the playbooks then. none of them would be doing this today.

so you're saying manning has a skill that no one in history could have had?

well i wouldnt word it like that. no one in the history of football has taken on the kinda responsiblity he has in the huddle and at the line.

aside from size of the playbooks, what differentiates him from unitas or starr in responsibility in the huddle and at the line?

the complexities of the offensive play calling, evolution of defensive formations/blitzes/stunts, and i dunno this for a fact but id assume manning audibles more than those guys did at the line.

all that playcalling and controlling the offense is nice, but its pointless if it doesnt translate into wins. i dont think its a necessity to call plays to be a great QB. If the coach calls all the plays, as long as the QB executes them its just as good.

This was said awhile back in this thread, but the Colts offensive line is actually not as good as the numbers suggest (nor do I think was the Pats' line during their big run). Manning is pretty darn good in the pocket, as is Brady. Which is not to suggest the offensive lines are bad, they're just not absolutely amazing.

By the way, for the record, I agree with almost everything Warehouse is saying in this thread. Someone write that down or something.

btw, what was up with Manning in that second half when he didnt realize the quarter was about to end? thats not a mistake he makes. i dont know if the Saints just made adjustments, but he looked a little confused out there a few times. He had all day to throw it in the first half, but they started getting to him a bit by the end. his recievers let him down too.

i dont think he's a choker, but his playoff record is making me wonder. he never beat Florida in college either. its like he's always been a highly consistent player (can beat bad and ok teams all day), but when it comes to really stiff competition, his style doesnt work as well. He needs to figure out a way to crank it up a notch.

Guys... winning the Super Bowl wouldnt have made him the greatest QB of all time... and losing it doesnt take away that he is ONE OF the greatest of all time.

Peyton Manning joined a great list of QB's that have LOST a Super Bowl as well. Tom Brady and Bret Favre have both lost Super Bowls.

As far as the game, I thought it was a really weird game. The defenses didnt seem to be playing well, but it was relatively low scoring.

People who were saying Manning is a better QB than Brady need to rethink that.

I think there's still so much time to go in both careers....jury is still out, but Brady's 3 super bowl titles look even more impressive now...

so coach, what did you see last night in mannings play that makes you think less of him? this has nothing to do w/ the outcome of the game.

Tossing an interception in a pivotal point in the fourth quarter.
That's pretty obvious

so we are going to bring manning down b/c reggie wayne ran a lazy hitch?

if you actually analyze the guys play, peyton manning has been the best qb in the league for years. people only came on saying this the last couple years b/c he won a super bowl and almost went undefeated this year. him and brady have always been neck and neck, but brady's team always won so people gave him the edge.

wayne was the last option on that play and peyton threw a bad pass on a hot read IN THE FOURTH QUARTER OF A SUPER BOWL!!!; as for who has been the better QB, when the pats asked brady to become Manning like in 07, he produced the best offensive season ever for a qb...also, the stats overall (peyton has been laying longer) are pretty similar in the regular season.

and you can't discount manning's .500 playoff record...the goal is to win the championship, not rack up stats.

I still see brady as the better qb...by a little; the great news is that this debate will be much like the bird-magic one...it will last for a long time and neither side is "wrong" :peace:

coach, reggie wayned did a shitty job of coming back to the ball and b/c of his it was easily jumped and returned for 6. as for the rest of that, they are 1a and 1b and we can argue which is which forever.

No doubt. But you brought up the fact he pretty much runs the offense, which makes him a throwback of sorts.

Only to people from Boston. I'd take Payton every single time.

I take offense to that. I am from Boston and root for Boston teams, but I am clearly on the record here of bashing my beloved teams:
I want to blow up Fenway Park! Come on, do you know how much shit I get for that here???

I think the Bruins suck my little shit balls that stick to the hair in my ass!

Fuck Red Sox Nation...just a stupid PR machine....the celts should have traded away bird, mchale and parrish when they were hurt, and the pats pretty much sucked balls aside from a few good teams in the 80s and the last decade.

manning also tossed another interception in that game...in the end zone, but the guy couldn't stay in bounce...however offensive pass interference was called on that play
