Yeah, that was classic Phil. As far as the thread title suggests I would argue the golf gods were with Lefty this weekend.
Winning the Masters is becoming Vintage Phil.
Yeah no kidding. I hope Phil wins a couple more and surpasses Tiger at the masters.
He most likely won't. He only has a few good years left, where Tiger has more. They could go back and forth for the next few years though.
You might be right, friend.
It's crazy to me that Tiger made the top 5. Pretty much EVERY single time I watched him shoot, he would fuck it up. I think I saw 2, maybe three quality approaches, that's it. How the fuck can someone score so well at the masters, but look absolutely terrible??

I know what you mean. Tiger can't win every tournament, but it is scary that his C game got 4th at the freakin' Masters. He shot the ugliest 69 I've ever seen yesterday outside of the chip-in eagle. If he gets his shot down by the US Open he could go on quite a run.

I think Phil eventually matches Arnie with 4.
I hope he wins some other majors though in the next few years. He is becoming the hype of the last decade and really finishing where as before the talent got him there and he fell just short. He is becoming one of the all time greats really.
Tiger easily could have shot 80 and he just as easily could have made 65. He's just incredibly talented and well practiced. His issue at Augusta is similar to Phil at times. He's got every shot in the bag especially the difficult stuff the impossible stuff. He nuts up easy stuff. When Tiger or Phill start making puts... watch out.

I remember in commentary at the time, Nick 'I did this, I did that' Faldo saying the putt was coming up short anyway. What?
I've had a few looks and I think it may have been missing left....but that is freakish. At the time Phil might've thought 'is this going to be my luck today..'

If that had happened to Westwood, he would have melted down right then. That's the biggest advantage to having a few major wins under your belt. You can just play along without feeling like the whole world rides on every shot.
I think Phil has to be a favorite at the US Open this year. He's been close so many times at the tournament and he has a history of playing well at Pebble Beach. It might depend on whether they go the 2000 route and grow ridiculous rough or if they keep it playable. Chopping out of US Open rough isn't like hitting off pine straw.

I definitely agree with this. Part of Phil's mentality must surely also be 'there are bigger things in life than a major' at the moment, and all that emotion after his was amazing. I loved it. Who would Tiger have hugged? Phil Knight?
