Tiger Woods taken to hospital in 'serious' condition after car accident

Professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol just reported.

Woods, 33, pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community about 2:25 a.m. when he struck a fire hydrant, and then drove into a tree at his neighbor's property, FHP reported.

Woods was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in serious condition, FHP said. No other information about his condition has been released.

A Health Central hospital employee said at 2:30 p.m. that Woods was not a patient. A hospital operator would not say if Woods had been treated and released.

FHP said the airbags in Woods' Cadillac Escalade did not deploy, which means the vehicle was traveling under 33 mph.

Orange County Fire Rescue received the call for aid at 2:28 a.m. Woods was transported from his Windermere-area neighborhood by the hospital's own ambulance.

FHP did not report the accident until just after 2 p.m. today. The agency said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

I've read a bunch of versions of this and it sounds like he sustained cuts on his face and he's already out of the hospital:

A television station in Orlando said he was treated for facial lacerations, probably hit his face on the steering wheel. His agent said he is fine.

from CNN:

Chief Daniel Saylor said Windermere police found Woods on the ground in front of his vehicle. Woods' wife, Elin Nordegren, was with him. She told police she used a golf club to break the vehicle's rear window in order to get Woods out, he said.

Woods was semi-conscious and tried to get up, but police made sure he stayed on the ground until Orange County fire and rescue arrived about 10 minutes later, he said.
An officer on the scene said Woods' only visible injuries were cuts to his upper and lower lips and blood in his mouth, Saylor said.

http://www.sportsbybrooks.com and TMZ seem to be the most current sources of reports. This is getting interesting.

I think we'll eventually find out there's a MAJOR cover-up going on here for the golden boy Tiger Woods. Whether it be alcohol, domestic abuse, etc.

It seemed odd to me that after a single car accident at 3 in the morning (where a guy crashes his car into a fire hydrant and a tree) the authorities have been so quick to state that they "don't believe alcohol was involved."

Goddamn, Tiger gets an awfully long leash, doesn't he?

Imagine if this was, say, Pacman Jones or something...the coverage would be completely different.

It was probably roid rage.

Tiger Woods: Injuries Caused by Wife, Not SUV

Posted Nov 28th 2009 6:08AM by TMZ Staff

Tiger Woods did not suffer facial lacerations from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren -- according to a conversation Woods had Friday after the accident.

Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol -- that should happen this afternoon. But we're told Tiger had a conversation Friday -- with a non-law enforcement type -- detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.

We're told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We're told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV -- but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

Tiger WoodsWe're told Woods became "distracted," thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.

We're also told Woods had said during the conversation Friday he had been taking prescription pain medication for an injury, which could explain why he seemed somewhat out of it at the scene.

anyway, im not one to trust tmz, but that story doesn't sound all that impossible/improbable. i was thinking painkillers might have had something to do with it from as soon as i heard alcohol had nothing to do with it.

Yeah exactly.

I mean yesterday when hearing that she used the golf club to break out the window to get Tiger out of the car was like, :-/

It wasn't like the SUV flipped and she couldn't just get him out the door. :-/

I didn't understand that part of the story either. Tiger is in a tough spot. If she's crazy enough to chase him down the driveway with a golf club just for allegations of cheating, what is she going to do if he rats her out for domestic abuse?

if it was locked and they didn't have extra keys (or she couldn't find the extra key) then the whole golf club thing makes some sense.

All I know is that if he did indeed have an affair and she plans to get divorced this little golf club attack ruined any chance of her getting half his money. This whole story is so bizarre. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it.
