i have no clue who the tigers guy is. I just know he was rated #5 or something on the Baseball America list, #2 high school position player behind Upton..

ya, i think it's cool to pay attention to, but i sure won't spend the time on it that i do on the nfl draft. it's fun to look at old mlb 1st rounds, many of the players topped out in aa or aaa.

Yeah that Greg Gohr 1st round pick worked out!
The MLB draft is the biggest crapshoot of all. There's absolutely no reason to pay attention to it.
ya, those griffey and arod #1 overall picks sure were crazy!
You're just arguing with me to argue with me. The baseball draft is pointless to follow.
In the first round, maybe 2-3 stars come out, 3-5 everyday guys, 3-5 40 man roster guys, and 15 guys that bust.
1994 - #1 Overall - Paul Wilson
1997 - #1 Overall - Matt Anderson
1999 - #1 Overall - Josh Hamilton
2000 - #1 Overall - Adrian Gonzalez
Those guys were all sure things too, just like Griffey and ARod.
It's a total crapshoot.

Fair enough. But to get excited over these guys is a stretch, agreed?

Dodgers drafted Luke Hochevar. the guy is a STUD pitcher from Tennesee and Team USA, and Baseball America ranks him #6 overall, even ahead of Jared Weaver, but alas......
HES A SCOTT BORAS CLIENT.
looks like this kid will be holding out for a year or so
fuck boras, he continues to fuck up these kids careers by making them hold out for more money. what did it get Weaver? NOTHING. all Boras did for him was shave a year off his development.
apparently Billy Beane has taken like 2 H.S. pitchers early on.
too funny.........

2 sox picks that look decent, Craig Hansen, RP (St. Johns) and Jed Lowrie, 2B (Stanford):
Quote:
The skinny on Hansen: A closer who finished the 2005 regular season with a school-record 14 saves and a stingy 1.01 ERA in 29 appearances...Struck out 72 batters in 53 2/3 innings of work for the Red Storm...Pitched for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League last summer and tied the league record with 10 saves. (Source: Sports Network)
Quote:
The skinny on Lowrie: Lowrie leads Stanford in homers (12, No. 6 Pac-10), RBI (62, No. 3T Pac-10, No. 29T NCAA), batting average (.324), slugging percentage (.594, No. 7 Pac-10), total bases (123, No. 10T), sacrifice flies (10, No. 1 Pac-10), walks (39, No. 4 Pac-10) and multiple-RBI games (18 ). Lowrie was chosen as a First Team All-American by Sports Weekly and an All-Pac-10 selection in 2005, both for the second consecutive season. (Source: Stanford)

reports are that Hansen could be in the majors by the fall, not that the sox bullepen needs it
nothing against Hansen, but do you really want a kid just out of college pitching out of the bullpen in what will likely be a pennant race?
