We did last year but it seemed half the league lost interest by the all star break which made it kind of lame for those of us still paying attention.

was it a points league or a head to head league?

i had a lot of trouble getting into fantasy baseball over the last 4 or 5 years because i was always playing points based leagues, (thats my fav type of fantasy football) but last year i got into a head to head league that just keeps track of stat categories for a week long match up, and i loved it.

we definitely need to try and keep it competitive, so if we can get enough people that are interested to atleast have 6 to 10 teams then i think it would be good

It was head to head. There were some bullshit stats used. Fielding percentage was retarded, so was holds. Holds only works really in a points league.

if i start the league, then i have no problem working with everyone to make sure we like everything about the league, roster spots, # of bench players, stat categories and so on.

im a commissioner in multiple football leagues every year , but havent run my own baseball league, so ill need some help if i do it.

so lets see who all is interested

DVN obviously
CHUD it would seem
and who else?

have you run one before? im looking into just setting this one up and seeing if enough people join, and i was wondering if its pretty easy to change the draft date and time? it seems like it is asking me to set it right now, and im not sure when would be convenient for everyone, so if i can change it as much as i want, then ill set it up and just change the date later.

Yeah, set it up with yahoo now and tinker around with it. Anything you set you can change later. Also the amount of players you set is just the maximum, and you can run with any even number of players.

FYI I already have a draft commitment for sunday, march 27 at 630pm.

Way too many stats IMO, also, I like having the same amount of hitting stats as pitching stats.

Stats that don't come up all the time don't really work too well in head to head. Just because someone is going to get the win in that category for having that lucky triple or complete game. Also, complete games reward pitchers that don't get pulled by the manager in the 7th. Also, why singles?

Minimum innings pitched should be like 27, not 7.

How about:

Runs (R),
Hits (H),
Home Runs (HR),
Runs Batted In (RBI),
Stolen Bases (SB),
Strikeouts (K),
Batting Average (AVG),
On-base + Slugging Percentage (OPS)

Wins
Losses
Saves
Walks
Home Runs
Strikeouts
Earned Run Average
(Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched

i didnt mess with the minimum innings yet because i didnt know what everyone would want it to be, 7 is the yahoo default for what ever reason LOL

im cool on the idea of not too many of the rare categories, but weather we add them in and have 18 total categories, or remove 1 pitching and 1 batting category, i kinda think that atleast doubles for batting and shutouts for pitching should be included. im ok with triples not being included because they can be kinda flukey, but doubles are pretty common and seem like they should be separated from hits, but then i guess i dont know what that would do to triples, so we can work of deciding on that. and also im ok with not adding the complete games category because you shouldnt really benefit from a manager not pulling a pitcher to save the bullpen, especially in a loss, but i do feel like shutout should be included because it is not totally uncommon, and its a much bigger accomplishment then just a win.

thoughts?

I put in walks instead of hits in the list you quoted, I don't know why. I thought of doing doubles too, and then you could add IP or something to balance the sides. But then I thought against it for the reason that triples won't count and it seems weird.

I'd be in... I know twoheadedboy has set up the RM league the past couple of years but as CHUD said, the stats that were used last year were all screwy and a lot of the teams seemed to lose interest pretty quickly.

ok, for the moment i adjusted the stat categories to

BATTING PITCHING
runs wins
hits losses
home runs saves
RBI walks
stolen bases home runs
Ks Ks
batting avg. ERA
OPS WHIP

i still kinda want to use shutouts (as long as it doesnt award a guy who is pulled in the 7th and the BP finishes the game giving up no runs, with a shutout) and was thinking of removing either homeruns or walks to add it in, since with losses, HRs and walks, that is 3 negative categories for pitchers, and batters only really have the Ks as a negative. and im still not sure if there is a way, but i would like doubles to be worth more then just a hit, but with out adding triples and singles to it, then i dont think it will really work. as its set up now, a HR will go as both a HR and a Hit, so it kinda doubles that up, we could try adding extra base hit, but then you would get both an extra base hit and a hit if you get a double or a triple, and if you get a HR then you will get 1 point in HR, Xbase, and hit if i am figuring that right, so im not sure if that is a good idea.

i do still need to set the minimum innings pitched, is 27 a good # to go with?

if you want in, then go ahead and sign up and we will see if we get enough players to make it worth it.

and im wanting to make this league something everyone will want to keep up with for the whole season, so any input is good input. CHUD is already trying to help me out on how the stat categories should be set, so look them over if you would like, and let me know your thoughts.

LOL, baseball is a tough fantast game because it really requires looking at it most every day, but i would prefer if everyone atleast sets their line up for the week, so once a week make changes, make sure you arent fielding a line up of injured players for weeks at a time.

but all are welcome, and we will hopefully have a good enough time with it that everone wants to keep up with it regularly
