This is inspired by a similar thread that was going a few years ago over on a different music forum, and their polls allowed had fewer options. Thought I'd try it out there, Mod Kelly will be swooping in behind me hopefully sometime soon to wave her wand and actually create the poll options for you to see. It'll be multiple choice -- pick up to 4 different streaks.
I have zero doubt that some people will see this list and immediately "how could you leave (x) off?!" but that's unavoidable when making these. I did what I believe is my appropriate research around the net to find a wide array of possible options, I'm content enough with what I've come up with, keeping in mind the poll can be no more than 15 total choices. There's some athletes that have done some hard ass shit over the years.
Anyway here's the list to wet your appetite until the actual poll is created:
1. Brett Favre 297 consecutive NFL games started 2. Byron Nelson 11 consec Golf tournies won 3. Cal Ripken Jr 2632 consec MLB games played 4. Cy Young 25.1 consec MLB no-hit innings pitched 5. Greg Maddux 17 consec MLB seasons with at least 15 wins 6. Joe DiMaggio 56 consec MLB games with a hit 7. Johnny Unitas 47 consec NFL games throwing a TD pass 8. Lance Armstrong 7 consec Tour de France victories 9. Orel Hershiser 59 consec MLB scoreless innings pitched 10. Rafael Nadal 81 consec Clay Court tennis match victories 11. Rocky Marciano 49 consec Boxing match victories 12. Ted Williams 84 consec MLB games reached base safely 13. Tiger Woods 4 consec Major pro golf titles/142 consec Tour cuts made 14. Wayne Gretzky 51 consec NHL games scoring at least 1 point 15. Wilt Chamberlain 126 consec NBA games scoring at least 20 pts

Well yea pretty much. And honestly the multiple sites I was looking around for possible options, I wasn't really seeing a lot of college related streaks anyway, if that's what you're getting at.

It's a fair point and I can understand where it comes from, but at the same time the ones that are on here, they were the choices most frequently coming up in all of the different lists and sites I was scanning over, in fact now you say that, I don't think I recall seeing a single soccer-related streak on any of them. Probably the choice that would've been next after these was Glen Hall had 506 straight games played in the NHL for a goalie. But really, these are what I presented because they're what I was "given" to work with, the totality of what I saw (and short of actually spending multiple hours scouring the net... I don't have much of a life, but enough of one not to do that

My research showed there's some question as to the accuracy of Cy Young's number of no-hit innings, though everyone seems to agree it was at least 23 innings. 24 and 25.1 are the other two I've read. And of course there's the guy who threw back-to-back no hitters, the only one ever to do so (Johnny Vandemeer I think). Because while Young has the highest consecutive total, they resulted over the course of more than 2 games and some relief appearances.

That's the one I thought of. Favre's streak is great, but take his helmet off and start firing vulcanized rubber at his face, add 200+ games, then we'll talk.
There are so many amazing streaks there. I would pick Gretzky or DiMaggio, but I keep going back to Orel Leonard Hershiser IV, so I pick that.

I gotta go with DiMaggio, no one's really come close to it since he did it, and while Ripken and Favre's streaks are impressive, they didnt have to do anything but play well and stay healthy to get those streaks, DiMaggio had to do that and get a hit every game for 56 straight.
