The Denver Broncos are proud to select Marcell Dareus-DT RTR.
Now all I'd hope for is that he ends up being the better overall player than Peterson.
i didnt keep up with the combine, but what caused Fairley to go from possible #1 overall to not even the first DT ?
There are questions about Fairley perhaps being a one year wonder although he played mostly the same competition as Dareus last year and absolutely dominated. He was a one man gang. Some people question Fairley's size, some question his character and or desire.... but as far as on the field work, last year he was better than Dareus though Dareus is certainly no slouch having collapsed the sholder of Colt McCoy in the National Championship game and Dareus is generally thought of as a safer pick.

Dareus had a tremendous combine.

Fairley is also less scheme versatile than Dareus. He is more of a one-gap 4-3 guy whereas I've read Dareus will likely be able to play 4-3 DT and 3-4 DE at a very high level. Fairley could blow up but could also bust or be another Haynesworth. Dareus seems like the safer bet.

This was a really hard pick to make.
I know. Part of me almost wants the Panthers to pick one of them so that they make the decision for the Broncos.
If both are still on the board in real life, with the Panthers taking one of Gabbert or Newton, I hope the Bengals get real desperate for the other one, and pay a ransom to get ahead of the Bills.

I want to say Dareus is the guy that got shot in the arm on a thursday or friday night and frigging played on Saturday.

I really like Dareus and would have had no problem with the Panthers taking him #1. I am wondering what they will do on defense with Ron Rivera considering he was a 3-4 technician at San Diego. It seems like they'd like to be able to have some hybrid guys on the line and Dareus is one of the best ones in the draft.

He would be a great fit because they really haven't had his talent in there since Kris Jenkins left, though unlike Jenkins Dareus may actually play.
Rivera is coming in to a pretty nice situation defensively with a few tweaks. Beason is a freaking monster at MLB. If Dareus could keep linmen off of him he can work sideline ot sideline.
But, Carolina... almost can't afford to take him because they are so bad throwing the football. Would be interesting though. They are going to be bad next year no matter what. Say they take Dareus then wait for Andrew Luck if he maintains his status... that could work out well for them.

I can see the Bills taking Newton here. They need a spark for that franchise and this would probably sell some tickets. Of course, whether he is worthy of the #3 pick is up for debate. I would say no.

What was hard for me was corners of this caliber are RARE. But CBs typically take a few seasons to really mature, whereas linemen can be instant impact guys.

Talent wise I'd say he's worth it but way too many red flags around him. If I'm picking this high I want a sure thing, and am willing to sacrifice a little talent for a player with a much better attitude.

from what I've gathered, the general feeling around Buffalo about Cam Newton is "We don't want Vince Young as our QB at that pick." I really doubt it sells tickets by picking him.
