Matt Ryan was drafted with great expectations. So far in his young career he’s meeting those expectations and in many cases, far exceeding them. Ryan’s already found himself among the most notable of Falcons quarterbacks just four years into his career. What better time than now to appreciate what Ryan’s accomplished and imagine what could be to come?

At the conclusion of every Falcons game, Matt Haley of the Falcons public relations department compiles a list of statistical notes and milestones from the game just concluded.

His Notes & Milestones from Sunday evening is full of Falcons nuggets, but one in particular caught my eye.

Current Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw his 81st touchdown pass in Sunday’s win over the Titans, placing him fourth on the franchise list of signal callers. Ryan, in just his fourth season, has good company as far as Falcons QBs are concerned.

Chris Chandler and Chris Miller are tied with 87 each and Steve Bartkowski, a member of the Falcons’ Ring of Honor, tops the list with 154 touchdown passes.

On his current pace, Ryan will pass Chandler and Miller into second in franchise history this season. At his current pace (22 touchdowns per season), Ryan could potentially pass Bartkowski within three more seasons.

So where else does Ryan stand among the all-time Falcons?

60.8 completion percentage is third all time among passers who have played in 20 or more games.
12,686 yards is fourth behind Bartkowski, Miller and Chandler.
90 yard pass completion is third all-time longest.
Ten fourth-quarter comebacks are second only to Bartkowski’s 18.
Fifteen game-winning drives are second to Bartkowski’s 20.
Ryan’s percentage of times sacked when attempting to pass is 4.2. The next closest player to Ryan among players with comparable games played is Bobby Hebert’s 5.2.
All of those are impressive stats, but the last one is the most telling to me. It paints Ryan as a player able to play at a level necessary to quickly diagnose what is happening in front of him and get the ball out to the field, a skill critical of quarterbacks these days. It also speaks to the level of play of the five offensive linemen Ryan has played with.

When you look at where Ryan stands on the lists of great Falcons, it’s hard to ignore what he’s accomplished in a brief and rapid career. I’m not saying he’s going to be the best Falcons quarterback ever, but he’s already up there.

I’m just saying he’s definitely worth appreciating.

With all due respect to Mr Cox, we may have a really fine pig, but you just slathered lipstick all over it sir.

If only it were the hall of pretty decent guys who work hard and don't win playoff games..... and or the hall of being not good enough in big games.

We've really got to stop hyping up what is so obviously average.
