How is your team's recruiting looking thus far?
Clemson recently landed the #1 recruit in the land in Robert Nkemdiche. I haven't read a whole lot on him, but it looks like it was between Bama and Clemson, and Clemson also took 2 of his HS teammates and that apparently helped seal the deal. Also his HS coach played at Bama, as did Dabo Swinney, and they were roommates. That may have had something to do with it too.
Nonetheless, landing him was huge, and if he ends up signing, I'm sure he'll have an immediate impact (much like Da'Quan Bowers).
I guess we are officially lest than two months before the season...I'm trying not to think about it too much, but some definite concerns for Clemson are the trenches. They lost 4 starters on the O-Line, and 3 on the D-Line. The skill positions should be awesome with Tajh Boyd, Andre Ellington, Nuke Hopkins, and of course Sammy Watkins. However, if the O-Linke sucks, then the skill positions won't be able to shine.
Right off the bat is a big test as the team plays Auburn. I suppose this will be a good indication of how the team fairs. After Auburn, it's two cupcakes, then FSU. That game should pretty much determine who will represent the ACC in the Atlantic division. It's in Tallahassee, and these games have been super close lately, but Clemson has managed to win 5 of the last 7. Outside of FSU, Auburn, and South Carolina, I think Clemson has a good shot at running the table. Unfortunately, Clemson has an uncanny ability to lose to teams they should beat (BC, Duke, Wake Forrest, Maryland). If Clemson can finally win games they should, and beat FSU, I can see a 10-2 type season for them.

Recruiting so far has looked great for Mizzou. Several "experts" predicted that the move to the SEC would negatively affect recruiting in Kansas City, but it has done the opposite. I think we already have one of the strongest recruiting classes in the Pinkel era, but there is plenty of time left. His coaching staff does a great job of developing talent and finding guys to fit the system.
I'm very interested to see how Mizzou does this year. I could see a 9 win season and I can see a 5 or 6 win season. It all depends on James Franklin and his ability to stay healthy and winning home games.

Not sure why moving into the SEC would negatively affect recuiting. Mizzou is a great school anyway, Pinkel is a great offensive coach and they've put Spoon, Aldon Smith and William Moore into the league from the defensive side in the last several years. They are pretty stout.
1.Michigan 2.Florida 3.Alabama 4.Texas 5.Florida State 6.USC 7.Texas A&M 8.Georgia 9.Ohio State 10.Notre Dame 11.LSU 12.Auburn 13.Clemson 14.Penn State 15.Oklahoma View 16-25 rankings >>
I don't really pay attention to these for some reason.
Oh, I don't blame you. There is some accuracy there, but I just view the same way I do pre-season polls. Isn't FSU always "back" in those, and aren't the Dallas Cowboys a superbowl team every year?
Not to mention, how many "5 star" guys fizzle, while a 3 star guy is all-conference after a few years.

I think this is the third time I've posted this but it gives some insight into how these rankings correlate with actually winning games. I always keep it in mind when recruiting rankings are the topic of conversation.

The thing that bothers me about the rankings is the same thing that bothers me about draft grades.
Way way too much emphasis on skill position talent especially the number of QB's.
That, and recruiting grades are ridiculous. There is no grade for character/ "heart" or work ethic, and it's very hard to project success in some areas of HS where the competition is just not adequate.

It seems like the kids from Texas, California, and Florida are always rated really high too. A lot of Mizzou's guys playing in the NFL were 2 or 3 star recruits and just worked their asses off.

Penn State Freeh report is out. Not really anything we didn't know or couldn't infer from what occured but basically, yeah they all knew and did nothing, and Mcqueary got a job out of it.
They all kind of need to be in serious trouble under the Cleary act (failure to report abuse) I'm thinking big fines, lawsuits and potential jail time.

Part of that is character and or a chip on thier shoulder. Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Chase Daniel are good examples of this.

London Fletcher too. I'm pretty sure he went to a D3 school. For the past 6 years, he's been one of the very few bright spots for the Redskins.
Give me a hard working, 3 star recruit who is easily coachable over a self-obsessed 5 star any day.
Those rankings do seem skewed to me...I'll read that article later. O-Line guys seem to be rarely rated "5 stars" but a Secondary guy, or a QB seems much more likely to get the "5".
Those same experts also had Sammy Watkins as a 4 star, and I'm pretty sure he was one of the best college receivers last year as a freshman. During the season, the same experts were calling him NFL ready. In hindsight, he should have been a 5 star.

Absolutely.
