And nobody has mentioned the BROOKLYN NETS yet.

The one thing that sucks about NYC, sports-wise, is that there are no major college programs in the area. Throughout the city you have plenty of college bars -- one for Michigan, another for Ohio State, etc. -- and they do get packed and loud. But there's really no local college sports program of interest to the NYC base.

The Islanders have been awful for years and play in a decrepit stadium that's not friendly to mass transit and a good hour drive outside the city. Not entirely fair to include them here as evidence of why NY is a bad sports town.

The Mets are still reeling from the Madoff scheme and have historically had up-and-down attendance records based on their success. They play out in Queens and have always been second fiddle to the Yanks.

On the other hand, the Giants, Jets, Knicks, Rangers, and Yankees have all been successful/consistently drawn big crowds.

So that makes one bad franchise, one middle-of-the-road franchise, and five of the most famous/successful/richest franchises in their respective sports.

I was told I didn't deserve a hockey team last year because of attendance, meanwhile the Islanders were far worse yet no one is out to move that team and the league propped up the team in Arizona. The reason the team left is because the GD ownership cared nothing about hockey ran the team into the toilet then sold them as quickly as they could so they could continue making poor financial decisions with the basketball team. It had nothing to do with attendance, otherwise they would have fired Don Waddell 5 years ago. Many people won't enter the building whatsoever because of the ownership.

It's a ridiculous idea in general but for years journalists and entertainment writers have railed on for lack of a better term southern cities for thier lack of passionate fanbases using among other things attendance as a reason to tell them what bad fans they are. Most of these teams have the same issues you listed above. Every time one of my teams is in the playoffs some worthless hack journalist from New York or Bristol or both writes a column about how I don't deserve to see my team win because I'm a horrible fan or a country bumpkin or Racist something to that effect. This was just a schick post around that ridiculous idea because the Mets haven't "sold out" opening day. Gary Bettman is a rat bastard period. I don't know about other situations, but I believe the arena lease has been a difficult issue with getting the Coyotes out of Phoenix. They've also experienced some on-ice success the last three years, which I'm assuming gives them hope that some kind of playoff run could create a more dedicated fan base. I'm not sure it would work, but I can see the league looking at it that way. Atlanta was never really even close to having that happen. I fully expect the Coyotes to be in Quebec City as soon as their new arena is ready, though. I don't know anyone who would disagree with your opinion of Bettman.
