yeah for the record, I fucking hate Boston for taking Melo one pick before the Hawks. I wanted a back to the basket defensive center and I didn't care that his offensive game isn't good. Those two picks back to back Sullinger and Melo, If that works out, wow nice combo. If Sullinger is good enough they could trade Green.

but while we're on things I hate. I'm developing a massive complex against the Knicks. They are an irrellevant franchise, that couldn't win even with Ewing. I am so tired of hearing about the freaking Knicks....

Dear New York City, the Knicks are terrible. Live with it, embrace it, accept it.

ESPN's people will not give it up. It's always oh the Lakers and the Celtics... and of course the Knicks... (no, shitheads, the Knicks occupy a space in the New York Lexicon but they are a terrible franchise they are WAY south of the Yankees not just geographically)

It's the Lakers and the Celtics... and then a decade of Chicago dominance. Other than that the rest of us are also rans.
The Spurs are/have been pretty good, Electro.

Fair point, in the last decade the Spurs/Pop have been really really good. But they get little to no press because they are in San Antonio.

I just wanted to punch Linda Cohn and Mike Salk in the face yesterday for going on an on about how great it was for the NBA that Steve Nash is a laker. Great for ESPN yes. Great for the NBA... whatever, the Lakers were a 2nd round and out team before he got there anyway.

I'm not sure what Ray Allen has left in the tank though. He didn't look good well in the playoffs.
This is my concern for him as well as Pierce & Garnett. The shortened season may have helped them be what they were in the playoffs.

You could argue the shortened season was harder on the older teams. All the back to back to back games. More time to rest and practice next year. They shouldn't be as out of shape coming into the season as well. Who knows.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves...it's quite possible that the Lakers are going to thump the Heat and Thunder with their potential off-season moves.

Let's see another championship for Miami and another finals appearance for the Thunder before we get all excited.

I wouldn't count the Bulls out yet, either. I know, I know...injuries...speaking of which, Wade didn't look so hot in the playoffs...is he on the Back Nine?

She does more than kiss them.

Not excited for the Mavericks' season. What's the over/under on their wins? Thirty? :|

Between 1987 and 2007 the Pistons made the Eastern Conference finals 9 times. The NBA Finals 5 Times, and won 3 titles. Not to mention the countless rules changes made as a result of how well they did.

i debated it, but thought i might then have to add Houston, Miami & Dallas in there somewhere and didn't feel like it.

Miami and Dallas each won 1 title. Houston had a 3 year window with 2 titles. Not the same as 9 conference finals in 20 seasons.

especially if you are counting Celtics again, with one title, and one finals appearance in the big 3 era.

skitch, that timeline was supposed to represent the teams that have dominated news/play for decades, not a few years here and there (like your beloved pistons)

whether you like it or not:
the celtics & lakers dominated the 80s (Between 1980 and 1989, the Celtics and/or the Lakers played in every NBA Finals.)
the bulls took the 90s (two three-peats)
the spurs & lakers took from '99-'10 (combined they won 9 of 12 championships)

i included the celtics out of bias & b/c of the hype surrounding the big 3 in these last 5 years. i then joked about the new wave coming from miami & oklahoma city.

While I do think the pistons are as big a part of the fabric of the past 20 years of NBA basketball, I can accept your classifications since you have added this disclaimer. As long as you acknowledge this part, I can live with it even though I disagree.

as what/whom? they were also rans in each decade of the last 30 years. yes, they won a championship in each of the decades discussed, congrats (no small feat, but not up to the level of what the others mentioned accomplished). my point, which your own bias overlooks, is that the Pistons were not among the teams that dominated any of the 10 year stretches discussed.

the celtics latest big 3+rondo have contributed a great deal to the storyline of this recent decade, which i may be biased toward considering i'm in their market, but they beat the lakers, the lakers won the following year, and then they had a rematch and lakers won. that was an important/exciting storyline (probably more-so due to the 80s storylines than anything else).

You're incredibly biased, as am I. The Pistons made 2 Finals and 6 Straight Eastern Conf. Finals from 2001-2007. That's pretty dominant- more so than the last couple years of Boston.

And just because their stretch in the late 80's ended in 1990, shouldnt diminish that they made 4 straight ECF, 3 straight NBA Finals, and 2 titles. Thats a pretty dominating run. Especially when you factor in the fact that not once, but twice in the past 20 years the NBA has had to change the rules, or adjust their enforcement of rules to account for the impact that Pistons have had.
