I love the one-two punch of Small Pox Champion and Rend It. And if I was a director making a movie, I would put in Sweet and Low regardless of the plot.

Great band. Amazingly consistent back catalogue.

Bump for Fugazi.

I have no idea why I didn't start listening to this band 15 years ago. God knows they got enough press in Melody Maker when punk broke.

Interview with Joe Lally at frusciante.net:

Quote:
Besides your solo music, works in different projects like Ataxia, you have and most likely will always be known as the bassist of one of the most important bands of all time: Fugazi. Are you going to tour again in the future or work on new material? If so, do you see a specific time, where this would happen?

Joe: Fugazi has no plans to play or record. I wish I could say it was different.

Yeah, The Argument is great. You would really like Red Medicine too.

Cool. I'll be sure to look for it next then.

I finally got Red Medicine (and 13 Songs, too). Planning to listen to it later.

There's no "definitive" album. Go in order. Get 13 Songs. Like, now.

At my local "indy" shop, there's an employee suggestion section. 13 Songs has a sticker on it that says "If you own this, buy it again. If you don't, it's time to get educated, motherfucker."

Seriously, get them all. In order. Cos each one fucking rules.

Hey, just make sure you don't hype them up at all

I was going to ask the same question as the threadstarter (though I've heard 13 Songs). The unfortunate thing with threads like these is that you end up getting every one of their albums recommenede to you and there is no consensus.

Just from things I've read and conversations I've had with people, I don't think I coul handle too much of their early 90s material. I think The Argument or Red Medicine would be good choices for me.

If you missed Fugazi live, you missed an amazing show. I was lucky enough to see them about five years ago at U of R. The show was free and freezing. Literally in a small amphitheater in 30 (F) degree weather. My butt was frozen to the stone wall by the end of it but Fugazi still killed. Easily one of the top five shows I've ever seen with an amazingly tight band.

I don't own any of the discs, but it might be worth checking discord to see if they are still selling their old concert series. I bet they're pretty good.

One thing that almost no band can say is that they were fair to fans with pricing. But Fugazi was more than fair. Can anyone else say they saw one of the all time great bands for free?

I'm bringing back this old thread, because simply. Fugazi rules.
Repeater+3 Songs is my favorite, but 13 songs is up there as well.
Has anybody heard MacKaye's other band Embrace? After minor threat but before fugazi. They only did one album of like 14 songs, but its some really good stuff. A nice bridge for someone like me who didnt' really like minor threat, not much of a hardcore fan.

You remember that one Fugazi show you went to back in 1992 that you lost your mind at? Yeah that show was awesome, wasn’t it? It’s a shame you don’t have that concert to listen to on your iPod…or do you?

The band is digging deep into their live archives and releasing over 800 concerts from 1987-2003 for fans to download. The best part is that fans can pay whatever they like for the downloads. It’s suggested that you pay $5 for a download but you can pay as low as $1 and as high as $100 if you so choose.

Called the Fugazi Live Series, courtesy of frontman/Dischord records founder Ian MacKaye, you can start downloading on December 1st. The band will initially put up 130 shows at their website for fans to go crazy over. Additional downloads, photos, show flyers will also be added regularly until everything in the archive is at your fingertips.

The best part about these concerts is that nothing was edited out of the performances. Every song, bit of stage banter, crowd interaction and more is on every download. So if you happened to yell at the band during a lull in the performance, it’ll probably be heard.

One of the best live shows I've seen. And tickets were $6 or $7 bucks.
