Above is one of my favorite albums. It showcases some of Layne's best songwriting and singing. It also features some of Mike's best guitar work. And it's John Baker Saunders, not John Baker. Mark Lanegan also makes a guest apperance.

The album is really easy to find, still in print and you can find it at your local Best Buy or whatever music store you have around.
I was disappointed with them though.
Mike+Layne+Calm Music+Bongos=Masterpiece?
It should. But it doesn't. It's more along the lines of...
Mike+Layne+Calm Music+Bongos=Failed Attempt

Above is a solid album that shouldn't disappoint. There's one track or two that I'm not all too excited about, but November Hotel, All Alone, River of Deceit, Wake Up and Long Gone Day are brilliant.

I love Above, but i always revert to AIC if i want to hear Layne, my friend Josh calls Mad Season a weak version of AIC, i don't think so though, they were good and i'm glad Layne and Mike got together at all

I agree with everything you said 100%.
(Even the Best Buy part.)

I am watching for the first time the Mad Season rehersal from 4/22/95 at the Moore Theater and I am blown away. Yes, the Mad Season album kicks ass....but what I am most blown away by is how much I miss Layne. Damn, I miss Alice In Chains too but...there was something really special about Layne Staley.
Rest In Peace Layne......
Plus: What a soul revealing interview with Mike McCready after the rehersal...wow....That's the most I have ever heard Mike talk about his addiction problems.

This album is seriously great. Don't listen to anyone who thinks it's a "failed attempt" because it isn't anything like that. It's great.
Barrett Martin. Not the other way. John Baker Saunders. Come on, people.
I second these thoughts. It is one of my top ten favorite albums ever. Layne and Mike both at their absolute best.
i agree with this. layne's vocals (and marks' guest vocals) and mike's work were simply awesome. mike here shows that if he has a central role that he can create some great music and for this reason i want mike to have a more central role on the next pj album but we'll see. i prefer this to any AIC album as well.
