Yes, it's a top album.

Kowloon Walled City is a band that, theoretically, i should be really into. I love their aesthetic and they play the kind of music that comprises like half of my daily listening. Yet for reasons that i can't pin down, i just kinda feel bored whenever i listen to them. :?

I listened to one song. It was pretty boring. They really wish they were Deftones.

I'm not sure that's what they're going for.

That record slays, definitely in my top 10.

I doubt it is what they were going for. Missteps rarely are.

I meant the bit about Deftones.

So, I didn't get to listen to much of the music released in 2012. Of what I did hear my top five would be:

1. Generals - The Mynabirds
2. Blunderbuss - Jack White
3. The Idler Wheel... - Fiona Apple
4. Rhythm & Repose - Glen Hansard
5. The Lion's Roar - First Aid Kit

Nothing too exotic, but those are the best of what I heard this year.

I know :peace: Those points were related in my mind though. Objectively I thought that the music was cool enough, but it was so reminiscent of Deftones I couldn't enjoy it.

I think my top-5 would be something like:

1. Beach House - Bloom
2. Purity Ring - Shrines
3. Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid M.A.A.D. City
4. Sigur Ros - Valtari
5. Grimes - Visions

Do you have like a top 3 or 4 automatic, all-time, go-to band list? Like 3 or 4 bands that just do it for you and you keep coming back to, no matter what?

Well, my favourite band ever would have to be The Cure (though they haven't released a truly great album in twenty years) with Sonic Youth not far behind.

I love almost everything Earth have released, same for Bohren & der Club of Gore and I'd probably say Nels Cline (in his various projects) is my favourite active musician in the world. My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Brian Eno's ambient albums have all been hugely influential on me and still make into regular rotation.

I guess that's as good of a condensed guide to my tastes as I can come up with right now, though it feels woefully incomplete. There's plenty of jazz stuff too, particularly over the last few years, but at this stage it's more particular records than artists necessarily that I could point to.

Thanks for the reply. I want to check out those artists that I'm not familiar with.

Cool!

I really like The Cure quite a bit. And I've only heard A Thousand Leaves (  ) and Murray Street (  ) by Sonic Youth. Both excellent.

Some random Brian Eno stuff, but not a decent enough sample size. The rest of those you mentioned would be new to me. Looking forward to trying on some new suits.
