"Bloom" and "Generals" were my two big favorites this year--two flat-out superb albums, each song beautifully crafted on its own and then beautifully crafted again as a building block for its respective record. Also two sets of companion albums (in both cases, one cover album and one original)--"Where Do You Start" and "Ode" by the Brad Mehldau Trio, and "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" by Neil and the Horse. Dylan's "Tempest," El-P's "Cancer For Cure," and Spiritualized's "Sweet Heart Sweet Light" are three albums I returned to repeatedly for their best tracks, though none of them play through quite as well for me as the other stuff I've listed so far. And Calexico's "Algeirs" will probably find its way into this canon too once I've had some more time to spend with it.
There were also a handful of solid late-career-type records by some of the token old dudes in my collection--Cohen, Springsteen, McCartney, Weller. Nothing I'd necessarily throw in with any of the higher-ranking records on my list, but all albums I enjoyed a lot and am glad to have on the shelf.

Does the archival Sonic Youth live album from 1985 count? If so, that was pretty great.
That reminds me, I haven't heard the Yoko, Kim and Thurston album yet.
That reminds me, I saw some cool bootleg collections at a record store a few days ago but I didn't have the money to get them. Have you ever seen these titles?
