well my time went so quickly
i went lickety-splitly
out to my old '55
as I pulled away slowly
feeling so holy
god knows I was feeling alive
now the sun's coming up
i'm riding with lady luck
freeway cars and trucks
stars beginning to fade
and I lead the parade
just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer
oh lord let me tell you that the feelin's getting stronger
and it's six in the morning
gave me no warning
i had to be on my way
well there's trucks all a-passing me
and the lights are all flashing
i'm on my way home from your place
and now the sun's coming up
i'm riding with lady luck
freeway cars and trucks
stars beginning to fade
and I lead the parade
just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer
oh lord let me tell you that the feelin's getting stronger
and my time went so quickly
i went lickety-splickly out to my old '55
as I pulled away slowly
feeling so holy
god knows I was feeling alive
now the sun's coming up
i'm riding with lady luck
freeway cars and trucks
freeway cars and trucks
freeway cars and trucks

If Soundgarden is perfectly fine with playing together with Tad Doyle on vocals, why the fuck is he wasting his life promoting the single worst album of all time? Holy shit, he has to be the stupidest motherfucker on earth.

I love driving at night listening to music. When you're on a stretch of highway with no light or movement anywhere near you, and the stars are out, and godspeed you black emperor is dripping out your speakers, it's transcendant.

I was watching Top Gear last night when they announced their competition for best driving song ever. They didn't nominate any they just said to email/phone with suggestions.
that got me thinking, what is your fave driving song?
first thing to pop into my head was Rearviewmirror. I made a Neil Young compilation a while ago which was great to drive to, it had live versions of cortez the killer, down by the river, hurricane etc. On the same sort of line, Led Zeppelin - Achilles last stand, Black Sabbath - Paranoid are good to drive to. I also quite like driving to some hip-hop, particularly talib kweli - reflection eternal.
your thoughts?
RVM was the first one that popped into my head whilst watching Top Gear as well.
The whole QOTSA album SFTD is good for driving to as well.
as is VS.

Oh, the ragman draws circles Up and down the block. I'd ask him what the matter was But I know that he don't talk. And the ladies treat me kindly And furnish me with tape, But deep inside my heart I know I can't escape. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley With his pointed shoes and his bells, Speaking to some French girl, Who says she knows me well. And I would send a message To find out if she's talked, But the post office has been stolen And the mailbox is locked. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Mona tried to tell me To stay away from the train line. She said that all the railroad men Just drink up your blood like wine. An' I said, "Oh, I didn't know that, But then again, there's only one I've met An' he just smoked my eyelids An' punched my cigarette." Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Grandpa died last week And now he's buried in the rocks, But everybody still talks about How badly they were shocked. But me, I expected it to happen, I knew he'd lost control When he built a fire on Main Street And shot it full of holes. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Now the senator came down here Showing ev'ryone his gun, Handing out free tickets To the wedding of his son. An' me, I nearly got busted An' wouldn't it be my luck To get caught without a ticket And be discovered beneath a truck. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Now the preacher looked so baffled When I asked him why he dressed With twenty pounds of headlines Stapled to his chest. But he cursed me when I proved it to him, Then I whispered, "Not even you can hide. You see, you're just like me, I hope you're satisfied." Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Now the rainman gave me two cures, Then he said, "Jump right in." The one was Texas medicine, The other was just railroad gin. An' like a fool I mixed them An' it strangled up my mind, An' now people just get uglier An' I have no sense of time. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
When Ruthie says come see her In her honky-tonk lagoon, Where I can watch her waltz for free 'Neath her Panamanian moon. An' I say, "Aw come on now, You must know about my debutante." An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need But I know what you want." Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.
Now the bricks lay on Grand Street Where the neon madmen climb. They all fall there so perfectly, It all seems so well timed. An' here I sit so patiently Waiting to find out what price You have to pay to get out of Going through all these things twice. Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again.

I love Tom Waits--but I prefer old shoes and picture postcards from that album

I' m big fan of Tom Petty on road trips. One of my favorites is from his Wildflowers album, "Time To Move On". I think the lyrics are perfect for driving
Time To Move On Lyrics (Tom Petty)
It's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going
Broken skyline, movin' through the airport
She's an honest defector
Conscientious objector
Now her own protector
Broken skyline, which way to love land
Which way to something better
Which way to forgiveness
Which way do I go
Time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going
Sometime later, getting the words wrong
Wasting the meaning and losing the rhyme
Nauseous adrenaline
Like breakin' up a dogfight
Like a deer in the headlights
Frozen in real time
I'm losing my mind
It's time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It's time to move on, it's time to get going
