My mom is a big fan of Paul Westerberg's solo stuff, and I've always kinda dug it, so I picked up his former band's classic Tim yesterday. Holy crap, what an album. Just balls to the wall rock...well, besides the two country tinged tracks, which are still great anyway.

Anyone else dig these guys? I need to check out more of their stuff as soon as possible.

Oh come on, I expected to see some more love for these guys. They seem like a band this board would adore.

i'm a huge fan.

i have tim, let it be, and pleased to meet me plus a few bootlegs.

the epitome of unrealized potential and "what could have been". they could/should have been one of the biggest bands of the 80s.

Why are they nicknamed the 'Mats? I could understand, like, the 'Ments or something. What's the deal?

i don't know, in this case i'm just a sheep following the crowd (i.e. what i've seen written in various places).

I love this band. Definitely one of the most influential bands of their generation. But anything that has their name on it!

Oh yes! This was my favorite band when I was in college.
Sorry Ma, Hootenany, and Let it Be were always on my turntable.
When Tim came out there was some controversy because they'd signed with a Major label and some folks thought they'd sold out. Kids can be so idiotic.

I saw them many times back in the day - even with Bob Stinson a couple of times. By the end - they'd sobered up and it was obviously over. The last time I saw them it was similar to the last Clash tour. You could tell the band didn't get along. They're last couple of records were mediocore.

I heard Kiss Me on the Bus the other day and absolutely loved it. I should pick up some of their stuff later this week (probably Let It Be and Tim).

I've been wanting to hear Tim for some time, but I can never find it to download. Westerberg seems like he doesn't take himself too seriously, and that's always a good thing.

Hi.

I used to have copies of Don't Tell A Soul and Pleased To Meet Me. I didn't think they were very good. Long time ago but I think I bought them on the strength of the band being regarded as heirs to Big Star. They struck me as a fairly typical American bar band, nothing special.

This is a band with a huge reputation, should I give one of the earlier albums a chance?

I'm the definition of broke, and I never buy stuff without listening to it. But I might if I can get it on Amazon for less than 10 bucks.
