That's the most ridiculous statement I've heard all days, and I watched a rerun of the last presidential debate.

i'm sorry hardcore is lame... the bands all seem too into being recognized by the label "hardcore" rather than focusing on their music... just play music! don't play a genre! they all have to be like "hard core forever" "we're hardcore!" it's dumb, focusing on your genre is almst as mindless as nelly

Hold on to your genre, your genre's got a hold on you.
Hold on to your hair-do, it's the only thing to hold onto.

The Fugs "first album" could be considered Psychedelic punk. They could barely play their instruments, couldn't sing, but spoke out and had a bunch of grassroots albums.

Mothers of Invention (Zappa's first) - "Freak out" was a precurser

and of course, MC-5

Patti Smith - Horses

"The Dolls of New York" were good punk before they became the New York Dolls

"X"

Black Flag was pretty intense punk!

Finally. Thanks.

"Mommy's Little Monster" is one of my favorites (Social Distortion), along with X "Los Angeles", and quite a few others (many of which have already been mentioned herein). I'm an LA/UK "Dead Kennedy's, Primus, Social Distortion, X, Generation X, Clash, Pistols, Black Flag, Misfits, Dead Boys, Buzzcocks, Damned, Dickies, Circle Jerks, Fear, Suicidal Tendencies, Minor Threat, Agent Orange, Stooges, Richard Hell" sort of person, generally speaking. Ramones, of course, rule.

well, I don't know any of today's hardcore bands but in my wild days we use to listen to the exploited.. old english hardcore band... as well as discharge.. and a few others.. like bad brains.

Maybe you should check them out if you like hardcore. they come from the roots of that genre.

Uh. You have the audacity to say the Joy Division isn't punk and then you bring up this stuff?

what was amazing about bad brains is that I don't think I had ever heard a group of african americans playing that type of music or even close to that!
