I couldn't find a thread on this amazing band so i'm making one because Mirrored(new cd) is coming out soon. I may have heard it via magic. Battles are a phenominal band created from members of Helmet(drummer), Don Caballero, and a few other bands. The drumming is the emphasis it would seem on most tracks, and the guy has an amazing style and tonal emphasis. I guess it would be classified under "math" rock but I really have no idea. It's catchy as fuck and amazingly well made.

I listened to 'Atlas' the other day. The vocals threw me for a loop, but by the end of the track I was dancing in my chair. Good stuff, I've been meaning to listen to the whole album.

The vocals are all over the place on the cd. Leyendecker vocals sound like oompa loompas lol. It's so god damn catchy though, and works amazingly well. I think Tonto is one of my favourites, as a whole.

I just listened to this album for the first time. This may sound like a long stretch but this is gonna be one of my top 10 albums of the year. Amazing stuff

This album is my favourite of 2007 so far. There are still alot of cd's to come out, but this band is quickly becoming one of my favourite bands. About 2:45(I believe) into Tonto is one of the greatest segments i've heard in awhile.

If you figure Don Caballero started out in the mid-90s, a lot of these guys are going to be kind of old now.

Yeah but they can still make some interesting music. It's interesting that alot of people are catching on to some of these folks now, and not during Don Cab or any of the other bands that the members were affiliated with.

Yeah, too bad none of these lightweights are going to listen to stuff like II and American Don on grounds of it not being "new" enough for them.

lol new music made by aging masters.

Speaking of American Don, I absolutely adore "Details on How to Get Iceman on Your License Plate".

They're very Deerhunter-esque.

Are Deerhunter recommended? I keep hearing about them but it's mostly on a Radiohead website, of which I don't trust anyone's opinion of good anymore.

i thought this thread title meant you were going to start a battle for best album of 2007, and i was going to make a quip about having battle fatigue, and now... i can't do that. :(

Billtop hit me with the track 'Atlas' on the mixtape he made me. I'm going to be listening to these cats a fair bit in the coming weeks. Oh my god Fools Gold just came on Alt TV.
