I think I've heard only two A Perfect Circle tunes. I think I would like to hear more; where do I start?
Recommendations?
I happen to like APC very much actually, I don't own the first album, but the second one is really good, I liked it better than the last Tool album.

Counting Bodies like Sheep (it's a remix)
not really. i was watching the dvd last night with maynards commentary on and made a point of noting that this isnt a remix...but actually a completely different song...a part 2 of the original if you will. and if you havent watched this dvd with maynards commentary i HIGHLY recommend it. great insight into the songs and video concepts...maynard has never revealed his lyrics like that for a Tool album

Well, I guess it is another song in that respect. All they really kept was the vocals.
My friend also recommended that I pick up the DVD, because of the light he sheds on the videos and lyrics. The story he told about Judith was really depressing.

yeah about his mom...it was sad
When his mother passed away and I saw her name, I knew it was about her. But it was so sad how they talked about her behind her back, and her only solace was in God. Maynard seems to be so angry over that. The passion in that song, especially live, is incredible.

i like knowing the true meaning behind that song in that hes not mad at god, but other peoples idea of god and how they use it to make them feel ritious, cause fundamentalists always rail against that song, when really its not about god....its about THEM

I think he's also against most organized religion, but that's just speculation. I'd kinda like him to shed some light on Lateralus, but I think that would kill our theories. I like having my own.

exactly. i like that APC maynard and Tool maynard are 2 different entities. APC maynard is more vocal and talks about song meanings, ideologies etc....but tool maynard is very cryptic and always keeps us guessing, which leaves the meaning of his songs purely subjective (and makes them better i think). you can pull any meaning out of a song...and it makes it more personal

Tool also seems to be the more obscure, deeper side of him while A Perfect Circle his him pouring his soul out for anyone, making it plain to see. APC is a lot more accessible.

I saw Paz play with Zwan in San Francisco, and I saw Maynard do an interview on FUSE (formerly MuchMusicUSA) with Julia. I saw a video with the bikini girls as well.
Thank you for the song list and suggestions (bookmarks thread to print and take to Rasputins)
listen to orestes, thinking of you, passive, and the noose
I was itching to put Orestes up there. It's a necessity. The Hollow is also good (both from the first album). The first album and second album are very different. The first is grittier and you can sort of tell they were working out kinks. The second was VERY well done. Much more somber and cleaner sounding. I recommend the first 4 tracks very highly. But after a few listens, I started really getting into The Outsider, The Nurse Who Loved Me and Pet. If you're undecided over which album to get, get the second one. It's a much easier listen, although I think the first is tremendous in its own right.
