The long-anticipated 2009 Dave Matthews Band album to be released in June - Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.
Before you say, "What the...?" the title does have some meaning to it. Groogux was a nickname applied to LeRoi Moore by his friends; Rashawn mentioned that on his Myspace page after the saxophonist's passing. Also for reference you can hear Carter call LeRoi by Grux in the How We Have Fun Before The Show video by Stefan at about 3:10. We got a little hint to the album title from Dave on Sunday; "...still here dancing with the Groo Grux King. We'll be drinking big whiskey while we dance and sing. When I get to the end, I'm gonna end.."

but where the f is burgettstown, the hold steady is there!!
Out by the Pittsburgh airport, basically about 20 miles west of Pittsburgh. Great venue once you are there, but I swore this place off years ago because of the horrible traffic control they have.
The year that I think Ben Kweller opened for him (i think ?) we were stopped in traffic within 5 miles of the place an hour early..... Not only did we not get in before door time and miss the ENTIRE opening act, but we also missed the first two DMB sons.... No lie. Never going back.

hehehe traffic is indeed a mess out there, i think they have gotten a little better, but its probably still a good halfhour to make it out onto route 18. every concert i have seen there i have wanted to kill someone while leaving

I've had that feeling after every gig I've seen at Mansfield when parked in the main lots. I now pay if I get there early enough and it is infinitely easier and more chill before hand. There is some good buzz about the album with info finally coming out, Tim's involvement has really upped my anticipation. That reminds me, I still have to get TR3's new one. I'll be at the Garden, Hartford, Saratoga Springs, VA Beach and Scranton as of now, and also the Clearwater gig in May.

i cant imagine the traffic there being worse than the scranton venue
if you stay til the end of the show, youll wait til after 2 to get outta the parking lots..we normally just drink beers and grill if we do..that place like 25 lots merge into 2 lanes, and the traffic directors have no clue what the fucks goin on

It is atleast as bad if not worse, believe me... I know.... But really, my worste Burgettestown experiences are gettin in there not getting out. Ans I had no problem getting in Scranton.
Back in '03 os so I did not leave the parking lot in Scranton until after 1AM at the Dead show.... I ran to my car to get out of there early and started my car at 11 exactly so it was 2 hours in the lot. Surprisingly the same thing happened to me at Camden I Pearl Jam show as well.... Horrible luck anymore.
Well, it's not Stand Up bad, I'll give it that... closer to an Everyday track, really. Still way too polished sounding for my tastes, though it could be plenty worse.
My hope is that this record will at least be listenable- where you can put it on every once in awhile and enjoy it for what it is, something I cannot do with Stand Up or Everyday.

While in New Orleans completing the recording of Big Whiskey, DMB contemplated many ideas for the next studio album cover. Producer Rob Cavallo suggested that the band have someone create a drawing. Dave conveyed out loud that maybe he’d draw something and was urged along. What you have is his most ambitious artwork to date. It’s fitting that DMB decided on a special album cover to complement the unique album title. More on that later, for now, Dave’s words:
"I like to draw, but I haven’t done anything that ambitious. I’m more of a scribbler on the tablecloth. I had hopes that I might spend my life doing it, at one point. I probably would have practiced a little more if I was doing it as my life focus. But it’s got some playful references to the album. And I like the idea that there’s always parades during Mardi Gras, and we were down there during that. There’s Bacchus and Rex and Zulu, and each has a king. So I liked the idea of making GrooGrux a parade, and that I was the king of a parade. And have the donkeys pulling a wagon like they used to; they don’t do that anymore. I thought, that’s a good space—the festival of Mardi Gras seemed like a good place to get a crowd.
"And I’m so happy—it’s so much fun. When I was a teenager, all I wanted to do was make an album cover. I used to make ‘em, fancy ones—okay, they were pretty shitty—and then I forgot about it. What an idiot! Then I remembered: Hey, I always wanted to make an album cover!"

that's an awfully short setlist. They better not be that quick in Vegas. I'm flyin in just for that show!
The show clocked in at 3 hours, though I'd imagine as they shake the rust off the sets will increase a song or two; 17-19 cuts has been the average since '01 IIRC.
