After living through the 90s which brought us bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Tool etc... the list could go on and on... thinking ahead what is in store for good old rock n roll for the future... what's are the 00's going to have to bring to the table as far as new bands.... i know there is still a little over 5 years left of this decade but what has it given us so far.... bands like nickleback, linkin park blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.... i dunno but to me all the new stuff coming out sounds the same... i go into record stores just looking to spend money but half the time there isn't anything worth spending money on as far as new stuff... what i'm sayin is, is there any hope in the near future???

THe 00's are very much like the 80's.
A lot of shit bands on the surface, but for those willing to explore a little some very good music being made underneath it all.
The 80's had the hair bands and the 00's have all the crap like nickleback POD etc. The 80's also had great new bands like REM, Sonic Youth, THe Cure, Dinosaur Jr etc While we can enjoy many of the bands glorified version mentioned. The modest mouse's, interpol, wilco, the mars volta, the shins, etc.
Also if this comparison is true about 6 or 7 years from now perhaps another incredible band will be popping up again

Binaural and Riot Act for starters!

Tons of amazing albums which haven't done well commercially.....who needs the corporate shit anyway. I don't understand why people spend so much time (wasting time) trying to find the next "real" rock band. They did it with Velvet Revolver (thats why I hate that shit so much), why? Because they played heavy riffs, have long hair, and sing about sex and drugs? Very lame and cliche. I would take Wilco and The Shins over garbage like that, or even over Soundgarden or Alice in Chains. If you say the 00's have sucked, you obviously haven't been looking, and probably don't care.

I forget about the "when the century starts" debate!

Mark Lanegan will be considered one of the greatest singer songwriters of our generation if he isn't already. And people will know who is he when you mention his name.
