what covers do you guys like but think the originals were bad? i have to go with what recently inspired this train of thought, Lovage's cover of Berlin's Sex (I'm A). how they took such a crappy song and turned it into such a masterpiece is beyond me, but definately shows that there is potential for greatness in nearly any song, it just needs the right people to bring it out.

i'm gonna have to say that johnny cash's version is good, but compared to origonal it is almost nothing

but to add to the list.... pearl jam - gremmie out of control.... the origonal isn't as good, but it is way better than anything else i've heard by the silly surfers

ugh, i'm not one to hate on pearl jam's version like many, but the original is way better. i like the new No Doubt cover of It's My Life, even though the original sucks, and the Queens of the Stone Age cover of Never Say Never by Romeo Void is much better than the original.

there is no way (and i havent heard the qotsa sing it) that they can even come close to the sexual tension in the original

So seriously, there is people that prefer NIN's version over Cash's? :?
Cash puts emotion and beauty into his version. I wouldn't say that Reznor's version is bad, but it truely pale in comparision to Cash.

Uum. I think NIN's version is better. Trent's voice works better with the brilliant lyrics, the music fits better and the build up at the end is amazing.
And I think Cash's version is the best cover ever made. But to put it in this thread is just fucking blasphemy.

hurt doesn't qualify for this thread because the original is good, regardless of whether cash's version is better or not (it is). how about these two:

Johnny Cash- Solitary Man
Urge Overkill- Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon

i've never been able to stand neil diamond but these versions are both amazing
