their first stuff is horribly overrated. they started getting really good with their whetton-bruford lineup, of which red is the best album. my personal favorite its the 80s lineup with belew and levin, of which discipline is the best album.

Oh yeah I forgot Tony Levin was in the band. I love his stuff from Liquid Tension Experiment.
I'd go for Red, then ItCotKC, then Discipline. That'll give you a good overview of the different lineups and styles, so you can decide for yourself which one you like best. Also, if you have an extra 60 bucks, The Great Deciever is a kickass (4 cd) live album.

I may have to check out KC. Since they came out way before i did (heh) Can someone tell me if their stuff are available?
As in, are they still in print? And what about the matter of re-issues and remastering and what-nots...which should i get?
Anyway, i'm gonna DL some tracks from those albums mentioned above. Anyone have recommendations for any particuliar track?
20th Century Schizoid Man is their most famous track, and it's pretty good, but not nearly the best. KC is a consistant enough group that most anything you can find will be good.

Did a search on amazon. Court seem to have 2 versions. a "remastered" one that was release early last year and a 30 anniv edition. Anyone know whats the deal (difference) with these 2 editions?

Slightly off-topic I know, but I was reading an otherwise risible Stephen King book Insomnia the other day and there was a character in it called the Crimson King; must be related to the band name, surely?

Get the 30th Anniversary disc, it was overseen by Fripp (guitarist/songwriter) himself. The original cd version is actually not that bad, but I'd still go with the version the band approves.

So i should get the one pressed in 1999 ?
Hmmm, I had thought the 30th Ann. edition was the only one overseen by Fripp. In that case, I guess I'd go with the later version. I googled it and couldn't find anyone critical of either version of the cd, so you're pretty safe either way.

Definitely get the recently remastered edition of Court of the Crimson King. With the other remasters it's not going to matter too much since they didn't seem to spend as much time on them.
