The 2 songs that got me hooked years ago were 2112 and Subdivisions.

This thread reminds me of that Harvey Birdman episode when Phil Ken Sebben thinks people are stealing from his office and goes nuts with security.

Phil Ken Sebben: "I'm gonna raise the warning system from "Blackwatch Plaid" to the cover of Rush's seminal album "Moving Pictures."

HA HA, Dangly Parts!

I agree...bass, keyboards and singing is pretty incredible (although I can see how some people could hate is voice, but I'm not one of them).

Throw Red Barchetta on there.

Thanks in part to Guitar Hero 2, I decided to buy Moving Pictures off of iTunes yesterday. Of course I knew of "Limelight" and "Tom Sawyer", but the rest of it is good as well. "YYZ", in particular, is killer. :bammer:

Yeah, these guys would be amazing if they had a frontman who specifically handled vocals, but in certain songs Geddy sings, plays keyboards, and even plays bass with his feet using some kind of pedal board, all while keeping up with the countless progressive time signature changes. You have to ignore the old-school high pitched vocals and appreciate the guy's musicianship. These guys are all mind-blowingly great on their respective instruments.

I got into them through a friend when Test For Echo came out. I love that album, but Snakes & Arrows which was released earlier this year is also really really good. There's more acoustic stuff, and more instrumental stuff, and as with previous albums, Geddy's higher register vocals have been dropped in favor of pitches that actually make him sound like he's got a pair of testicles. All of the hits are from earlier in their career, but they sound just as vital today as they ever did.

I really like the new album - it's pretty much your standard fare straight ahead rock album, which is something they seemed to have gotten away from for awhile. The instrumentals are really kickass. The only negative thing I could say about the album, is that just about all of the tracks are in the same or similar tempo, which, if you're not paying attention, could make it pretty samey sounding. With that said, it's one of the better releases of this year, at least for me.

I agree. It makes my top 10 rock records of the year. "Armor & Sword" is fucking killer.

They do put on a great show.

When was the first time you saw them live?

Did anyone see the 1996/97 Test For Echo tour? Seeing 2112 in its entirety was great.
