Good singles and indifferent album tracks just like the other two. Why was this album so hated?

Apparently they didn't go anywhere different musically and the lyrics sucked at times. I actually agree with the lyric thing on a few songs. I still enjoyed it overall though.

'Til Kingdom Come is the best song.

Good album, not great but good. The lyrics were a bit shifty at times but definately not terrible. I didn't like the U2 influence on some of the songs but the rest were good.

They didn't budge musically. The lyrics got worse (considerably worse), and the music just regurgitated what worked on the hit singles from the last album (Clocks and The Scientist).

Musically, I still think some of the guitar/piano interplay and the buildups are very cool, and they definately have a unique "sound", but it's all very homogenous.

Til kingdom Come is certainly the best track, and they made it a hidden track (god knows why). I liked Speed of Sound, but Fix You is just awful.

This is a good album, its not great, its not as lyrically "deep" as sat parachutes or as musically bombastic as A Rush of Blood but i dont see where everyone is getting of saying Coldplay are shitty or anything. I mean they make decent music, in a world of Brittney and N Sync I will take a tall order of any coldplay album any day of the week... I think a few people expected a little too much from this album, Coldplay were haild as the next U2 after rush of blood came out and thats kinda unfair... They made a pretty good album but I do believe it could have been better, albums can always be better, no ones perfect.... I think Fix You is what it is, you either like it or you dont just like any other song... I like the organ sound so i think its a cool song, lyrically it may be kind of cheesey but guess what? a lot of people are cheesey and maybe theres a spot in my heart and record collection for cheesyness.... i dunno i just hope they make an album thats a little more edgy next time (no u2 reffernce there). They need to maybe make a double concept album about a dragon or something and sing it in a made up language ala Sigur Ros... this could be cool...

I can't respect music that's cheesy. And I can't enjoy music I don't respect.

surely any coldplay album sucks at least as much as the one which preceded it.

I think this is a great album. Why do lyrics have to be "deep" if they are honest? Fix You, for example, is a great song because it is uplifting musically and has a great message. "Talk" is another great song, because the music and words are accessible, even if it's not poetry.

The album is very U2-sounding, but that's what Coldplay sounds like.
Either you like them or you don't. They found a formula that works and makes them lots of moiney, and they stick with it. That's why it's called the "music business".. because it's a business and they make music to make money, just like everyone else.

It's crazy because now people snub this and listen to The Postal Service or whatever as if that's any cooler at this point.

I don't like the Postal Service at all, but at least the lyrics to their songs range from ok to actually pretty good. The music is decent as well. Still nothing I'd buy, but it's not absolutely horrible and uninspired like Coldplay.

I get embarassed when listening to the lyrics, and that takes all the joy out. There's one good song(with lyrics and all), and that's the hidden track that Jim mentioned.

That's all.

someone above already said it and they nailed it....
they have found the money making formula, and rather than risk branching out and losing some of that mass starbucks appeal, they are content to pop out the same material over again, and become gazillionaires off it.
as most of us here are fans of pearl jam and other bands who expand their horizons and experiment, i think thats why there's often disapointment in a band that shows promise, but never lives up to it because of their pursuit of the almighty dollar.
the album is okay. my girlfriend loves it, so i have to hear it. actually after about 4 songs im ready to listen to dashboard confessional, but there are like maybe 2 to 3 very solid tracks on it...

So what some of you are trying to say is that they should have been more experiemntal ala Radiohead kinda stuff or something and what some of you are saying is that if a band does something well then why change it? Maybe they can find a happy medium, like i said i think some of you expect a little too much, these people are just human like u and me... maybe writing a lyric like "when you try your best but you dont succede" is simple because more people can relate to simple things than complex things... thats why the beatles made a lot of simplistic music early on and waited till later on to show their songwriting creativity, you have to think of it as give and take, i dont think coldplays fans could really handle a huge experimental album yet, it would alienate the audience which is a risk you take i know but look at their fanbase its not like radioheads ever was , there are little tennyboppers who like coldplay and people like RMers who like them, they are more "universal". it doesnt mean i like them better i think radioheads my all time number 2 behind pj this is just my outlook on this album and this discussion.

That and the lyrics are pathetically bad
It makes me so sad
Pure cheese
I could write beter lyrics with ease

I actually like their previous stuff, but this album was pure shit, one of the most dissapointing albums I have ever heard.

The Scientist has a really cool piano riff that I enjoy. Aside from that, I could care less about this band.
