My New Years was fun actually. I got a ticket to see Wolf Parade at the Pitchfork 10th anniversary at the Viaduct Theatre in Chicago. I got the ticket off some guy through Craig's list and was going solo. There were 2 opening bands, neither I had heard before at all. When I got there I met the guy I bought the ticket from and paid him. I went off on my own to sit down and drink and wait for the bands. David, the guy I bought my ticket from, and his girlfriend, I think, come sit next to me and we end up hanging out the whole night. They were pretty cool, but just a little too much into the whole indie thing.

he was fucking hilarious. We really thought the guy was supposed to be a joke. He was an iBook DJ that just danced/rocked out on the stage the whole time. He often; pulled up the screen of his iBook as it started to fall down, asked everyone if they were using drugs, and rehooked the audio output line out of his iBook after it came out stopping sound, or at least the right speaker. I hope Pitchfork has pictures online next week of this guy in action, I didnt see many people were into this toolbox. The next band,Blood On The Wall, was ok, but it was during their set everyone found out the sound in this place blew.
A few minutes after 2006 arrived Wolf Parade came out. Its really tough to judge the band's live sound due to the sound sucking so much at the Viaduct. Their performance itself rocked. Spencer's keyboard wasnt working towards the end, but after playing a few songs and a few minutes later it was fixed. I wont go through the setlist, because I didnt keep track. Highlights were Ill Believe In Anything and This Hearts On Fire. Their encore was Knocking On Heaven's Door with help from Blood On The Wall. During the last few songs Mr. Cock Rock Disco himself came out, wasted, and decided he needed to mosh right in front of the stage, once again no one liked him. Overall it was a pretty good night; Cock Block Disco was funny and Wolf Parade kicked all the ass they could given the shitty sound.
