I've got some extra cash so I'd thought I'd buy some shit worth owning in CD format. First on the list is DSOTM. Which version is best?

I prefer the cover on the first remaster, but the sound on the SACD..

I'm reading reviews that say the SACD is not all it's cracked up to be.

I'll put DSOTM on hold for now, but I'm getting Lift Your Skinny Fists... tonight for sure.

I think I'll be getting the following:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Lift Your Skinny Fists...
Slint-Spiderland
Talk Talk-Laughing Stock
Mark Hollis-Mark Hollis

The first three are albums that I already love, the last is one I've never heard but I'm sure I'll like (Hollis was the frontman of Talk Talk). So far it's gonna cost me about $40, which is pretty reasonable.

SACD is orgasmic if you have an SACD player.

I decided for the best of post rock instead, but I'll be buying Dark Side eventually, probably just the remaster. One of the SACD reviews said the vocals on Great Gig In The Sky are pushed to the back a little too much, and I can't be having that as it's my favorite part of the album.

CHRIST. That is an amazing list.

also stay away from Summoning unless you want poorly produced metal about the Lord Of The Rings mythos. I have 2 albums and don't think they are too good.

I only buy shit if it's tops, hence the post rock selections.

And don't worry, I wasn't planning on buying any Summoning or any other lame ass metal. The closest I'll come is if I decide to buy that Jesu album.

It isn't terrible, but it has terrible production.

Slightly on topic, I got a Matt Good anthology today, 2 CD's and a DVD for 30 bucks from my girlfriend. He was the one who got me onto Talk Talk, you know

Nate, if you're not the kinda guy who actually buys cds, then don't waste your time with them. Listen to mp3s for convienience and when you find yourself in a situation where you have some $, buy vinyl.

I like CDs for the artwork and for their portability. I have no turntable and you can't play records in your car on straight out of your backpack, and I refuse to buy an mp3 player until they're worth it.

buy a turntable and an mp3 player when you can afford it. then you can listen to vinyl at home and mp3s in your car. they're worth it, and i never thought you'd hear me saying that ;)
