I'll go with the Foo Fighters. I think most people know that he/they write good, poppy rock songs, but they are not trying to change the world or anything. I don't really like the Foo Fighters, but appreciate what they are and won't change the radio station if one of their songs comes on. Decent generic alt-rock.
