I've come to the conclusion that CCR is one of the greatest fucking bands ever. I've always liked them, but man, John Fogerty's voice just owns, and the guy's guitar tone is some of the sickest ever. Not to even mention his songwriting. Amazing band, here are some of my favorites, besides the hits that everyone knows already:
Penthouse Pauper
The Working Man
Commotion
Effigy
The Midnight Special
Side O' the Road
Feelin' Blue
Sinister Purpose

i love CCR, so much that i see creedence clearwater revisited when they come around. it's the other guys in the band, with a guitarist and a lead singer who hold somewhat of a candle to fogerty. it gets me by.

Have you seen Fogerty? I've heard nothing but great things about his shows.

I use to work with a guy who grew up on CCR. He brought in all their albums and we use to listen to CCR all the time. He even brought in the Tom Fogerty and Jerry Garcia album.
Here's John and Jerry.

CCR is good stuff as a group, I'm not sold on Fogerty solo though. Did you happen to catch his pre-Super Bowl performance? CCR has always sounded great live, from the performances I've heard. Someday never comes is one of my favorites from them.

He was on Austin City Limits not too long ago. Kick ass performance. His latest song "Deja Vu" is pretty simple but as usual, Fogerty turns it into something amazing.

I saw him at the Orpheum last year. It was a blast. Everyone was singing along to every song.

Great thread.
CCR has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember. I love Fogerty's voice, definately in my top 10. The whole band is really talented and I love their music.
I was listening to them this morning.

i love CCR, but john fogerty gets on my nerves. i've read some stuff about him that makes him out to be a real asshole.
i saw him live during the vote for change tour last year, and his CCR songs were incredible, but then he played 'centerfield' (a song i admittedly hate) on a guitar shaped like a baseball bat and i had to snicker.

I saw then last summer without fogerty, some other singer that sounded jsut like him though. And i am a casual fan of them, but i knew every song that they played and song was great. Good times

suzie q has one of my favorite guitar moments of all time. it just sounds so muddy and murky and like something i'd order at one of my favorite cajun restaraunts.

Seen Fogerty a couple times, amazing.
It probably comes as no surprise to any of you that I am a huge CCR fan, "Cotton Fields" is probably my fave. It is worth noting that this is the only band that my parents and I could both listen to.

The CCR albums are incredible for how much great music that band created in such a short period of time. It really was all John Fogerty too, he was the genius frontman of a very good band. Some of his solo stuff is very good too.
But Fogerty himself has always impressed me as kind of a self-important douche in every non-performing setting I've ever seen him or read about him. This is a guy who has been fucked over by the business big time, but also seems to think that everyone is trying to fuck him over to this day. He did something beautiful and amazing 35 years ago and he's been resting on his laurels ever since.
Something about his appearance on that vote for change special on TV, the backstage stuff and the between song stuff, just totally rubbed me the wrong way. He is a has been, and he hasn't got a clue that he is. He wrote a pretty decent new song, but thinks that it's the greatest thing that God ever inspired man to commit to paper.
I'll just listen to his old music and try to not think about the man he became.

Jeez, man, that's kinda harsh. I never got that impression from interviews I've seen. Yeah, he has been fucked over--I mean, the guy got sued for using his own riff in another song he wrote. And I think many artists pump up their new stuff; that's really nothing new to me, it's just marketing. I think he's far from a has-been.
