The best? I dont know about that, but i like them. I think the "best" has to go to Mastodon or Neurosis or Isis. But i like the more progressive type "metal" music.
The "best" are Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, and maybe a handful of others.
Depending on what type of "metal" your talking about. I had a girl come up to me last night at Vintage Vinyl trying to get me to come see some local band. She discribed them as "They're not like White Stripes type metal". I've heard all kinds of music in my life, and i love the White Stripes. But i have never heard of "White Stripes type metal".

theyre ok. ive got a friend who swears by them. the new cds ok. im not big on too much metal though. i like a few bands but thats about it so my metal knowledge is a bit lacking.i usually shy away from the REALLY heavy stuff
Does anyone listen to these guys?? They are the best metal band out there right now! mikevs10
They kick ass but you are being a little gernerous with your comments. It's nice that they actually have a "shred" of metal but there are many better bands.

lol that's good! I guess if you're into the whole powermetal thing.
I guess you would have to specify a genre of metal to name the best. I don't know about power metal, I think it is laughable.
LOG is certainly near the top for the mall metal movement though. They are far superior to all the crap bands they usually take on tour with them.
I prefer my metal a little more heavy. Go get Cryptopsy - None so Vile that kiddies is a lesson in metal.

Well Dream Theater are not power metal, they're progressive metal. And metal in it's purest form is an extension of European classical music and folk music. So the power metal/prog/folk/neoclassical genres are truly the "real" metal.

Yeah, I know, I just hate them so much that I never acknowledge their existence except at times like these.

It's still silly though. Clean vox in metal are just funny to me. All that agression in the music is taken away by the fruity singer. Real metal for me has no power metal. Hey, do you want to trade some bands? I would love to get Nevermore off this continent... I'll take... ummm... Necrophagist. How does that sound?

I dont know about the Korn kids wearing Iced Earth shirts. Iced Earth is pretty damn overrated.
I dont think Nevermore is even classifiable though. They are too heavy for power metal, but vocals are too clean to be called anything else, but I dig the band alot, I remember the first time I heard Dead Heart in A Dead World, and it just blew my mind, and still does.
I was never a Korn kid either. I always despised Korn, and I've been into all types of metal for quite some time.
Actually, I havent seen any korn kids wearing Iced Earth shirts. Maybe after they realized that korn was complete crap, so they decided to go to a better but still crappy band, I dont really know

I think Iced Earth have gone downhill since Matt Barlow left. I totally forgot about Nevermore Im gonna have to listen to Dead Heart In A Dead World and Dreaming Neon Black this week. Around here I havent seen too many Iced Earth shirts.... Seen quite a bit of Opeth tees tho.
Canada's always been a big Opeth supporter. I remember the 1st time they played here at the Kathedral, they were overwhelmed by the support they had. They said after the show that it was a much warmer reception than they had anywhere in the States. Then they came back like 3 weeks later and played at the Reverb w/ Nevermore. At least I got to leave that one early to drive home... poor Nevermore. 3/4 of the crowd left after Opeth...

That is about the nicest thing I would say about them.
