If you like U2 a lot, either leave or prepare to be offended -

* U2 sold their songs to Apple computers & are now in Apple commercials

* When Bono does charity work, he makes sure the cameras are watching

* Bono tries to always be on everyones side politically, to make himself look socially conscious, but not offend anyone

* U2 takes no risks at losing mainstream popularity for underground credibility

* Bono has the biggest ego in music today, quite possibly bigger than Scott Stapp, & bigger than Axl Rose

* U2 purposefully makes music that is ridiculously commercial such as the entire "All you can't leave behind" album, & their latest album

* Most people feel obligated to like U2, because of their popularity, just like lots feel obligated to like Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, etc...

* Edge (their guitar player) started dressing like a boyband member

* the Clash are one of U2's biggest influences - & before Joe Strummer
died, he let everyone know he was very embarrassed by that by stating it straight out

* Most of you feel obligated to like U2 because they're the most talked about band today

* Their music videos are blatantly over the top & over produced, & Bono does enough Christ poses in them to fill Creed's videos 100 times over

* Whereas bands like Pearl Jam, from their most successful albums (as 'Ten' is to 'Joshua Tree') tend to experiment more & retain crediblity along the way - U2 became less popular after albums like 'Zooroopa' & 'Pop', then they decided to purposefully make mainstream music again, ('All you can't leave behind) in exchange for their crediblity gained from experimenting

* U2 has listed many credible, revolutionary punk, & post-punk bands as influences, such as the Clash (as mentioned above), Sex Pistols, Velvet Underground, Bowie... but do the complete opposite these artists did

* U2 want EVERYONE to like them - From the soccer moms, to the metalheads, to the cheerleaders

* The simularites between the music videos, & songs, 'Beautiful Day', & 'Vertigo' make it clear this band is repeating themselves, because they traded in their artistic talent for popularity


These are the reasons U2 sucks, don't like it? go get yourself a gallon of ice cream, watch some comedy central, & in the process, watch about 30 of those goddamn Apple "Vertigo" commercials till you've convinced yourself that if this band is in Apple commercials - they must still be important

Me? I'll be listening to Pearl Jam, the greatest band in the world (not the biggest), & laughing at seemingly the whole goddamn world wasting their time listening to the new U2 album instead of any PJ album

I dont like U2 much either, but it appeared that most of your reasons are based solely on image, which I think is rather silly. And by your first point, Led Zep and the Who are sellouts too.

I've heard all the Pj albums before , so I think I'll try out the new U2. Turns out, I like it.

Led Zeppelin had their song in a car commercial, they weren't in the car commercial... I think there is definitely a significant difference

as for the Who? don't really care for 'em to be honest - Yeah, I do think the Who are sellouts... & I think Pete Townshend is annoying - But they don't have enough popularity for me to rant against them, & out of respect for Eddie & Pj, I wouldn't...

This didn't degrade the meaning of the song, or take away from the context of it at all, of anything - it added to the song

'vertigo' in an apple commercial doesn't make sense

'rock n roll' in a car commercial doesn't make sense

....'pictures of you' in a camera commercial does make sense
