im pretty disappointed that this thread had vanished from major discussion on this board... wasnt it quoted from somewhere that PEARL JAM were even influenced by the Meat Puppets.

*listens to massive MP folder on itunes*... i LOVE bootlegs.

I like MP. I have a few albums, and they are good. I thank Nirvana for introducing me to them though.

New album comes out Tuesday. Its pretty damn good. A little more on the mellow/country-ish side. Sounds like it couldve came out between Mirage and Forbidden Places.

it depends on what kind of fan you are.. if you happen to like a band more and more by starting off with their most 'accessible' material, youll want to go down this route:

Too High To Die
No Joke!
II
Forbidden Places
Rise To Your Knees
Golden Lies

...... and so on. Those first three were actually my first and became more and more interested in what other material they had to offer. all the other records arent bad, but they have a certain sound that doesnt necessarily stick with most folks. i would say the new record i worthy of being in that list bumping down Golden Lies (which is great, but its not the 'true' lineup which are the Kikrwood Bros.)

Regardless, they got popular from that song. Not from playing with Nirvana. Hell, there are still people that don't even know those are Meat Puppets songs on the Unplugged album. They're all "woohoo, that's an awesome nirvana song Lake Of Fire, yeah!" You can find em in shitty bars all across america. Sometimes when they're not looking, I steal one of their smokes.

This was the whole point. Kurt didn't give a shit that you or anyone else wanted to hear unplugged Teen Spirit. He would much rather give some spotlight to a band he really liked.

Kurt's version of "Oh Me" is so great. I have loved that song since the first time I heard it.

Yeah...out of all the complaints I have of Kurt Cobain, none of which are his choices of cover songs at the Unplugged concert. I think they're all pretty great, actually, and outshine Nirvana's material they wrote themselves on that night.
