well, I haven't actually revisited the album yet, but I plan on it later tonight.

my point is, though, that a year or two ago, I, like many others, though this was one of the greatest albums of the 00's. It seems as though with Antics came a tremendous backlash which affected a lot of folks' view on the band as a whole. I mean, let's face it, Antics pretty much completely sucked.

I'm wondering what people think of this album (TOTBL) now? It seems like it's been completely forgotten, and I'm wondering why. Given, I have not listened to the album in probably a shade under a year, and I'm curious to see what I'll think of it now. There were a handful of people in Interpol's heyday who stood by the notion that the band was just a passing fad and would be forgotten in a few years. Well, it looks like that's been the case.

I'm going to listen to the album again later and see if it still has the same affect on me as it did when I was listening to it nonstop. I urge some others to do the same.

I agree that Antics cut it down a bit for me, just like Day I Forgot did to musicforthemorningafter. But I should relisten to that one, too.

I still think it's a good album. Antics sucked balls.

I listened to the first few tracks while in the shower today. It's a good atmospheric album, but it's not as great as everyone used to say it was.

No one talks about most music that's more than a few years old. The album has got to be pretty special for anyone to remember it, and now Interpol don't have that newness to protect them from being compared to older bands. Now that they're part of the past there's really no use for them, they only seemed good compared to the other crap out there when they debuted. When you compare it to some of the great bands of the 70's which its fair to do now they're just exposed for the average band they always were.

What albums from the 00s have held up?

The Constantines- Shine A Light
Paul Westerberg- Stereo / Mono
British Sea Power- The Decline of British Sea Power
Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
My Morning Jacket- It Still Moves
The Fiery Furnaces- Blueberry Boat
Destroyer- Streethawk: A Seduction
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds- Abattoir Blues/ The Lyre of Orpheus
The Notwist- Neon Golden
Primal Scream- XTRMNTR
the Black Keys- Rubber Factory
Yo La Tengo- And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
Mclusky- Mclusky Do Dallas
Sun Kil Moon- Ghosts of the Great Highway
Spoon- Kill The Moonlight
Sonic Youth- Murray Street

off the top of my head. but I should be listening to the Rolling Stones regardless, right?

and just to be clear, I do agree with the point you made concerning Interpol. you're right, when they were new everyone was excited, and now that that feeling has passed, no one (well, not as many as once did) sees it as quite so special anymore.

It's really unlikely any of that stuff will hold up. British Sea Power and The Notwist have already just about been forgotten.

contrary to popular belief rock music was not better in the 60s and 70s, jazz and r&b on the other hand...

what exactly do you mean by 'hold up'? be remembered as a classic like Let it Bleed? well hardly anything will, but you make it seem like the only way music is worth something is if people will remember it ten+ years from now. can't you just enjoy something without worrying about the impact it'll have / has had?

You were only right about the part that had nothing to do with the thread.
