not really ranking, moreso perspective i guess
ie: it's good, just not totally amazing/one of the absolute best albums post '00

and as tennisclay said above, it's fun, no harm in having fun.

for me, TOTBL starts out f'n amazing, but save for The New, i don't like the 2nd half even remotely as much as the first half. also, Interpol's lyrics are awful, i really hope they improve over time, but from Antics i'm losing any faith that they will and just hope i can enjoy their music regardless as i do now.

Compensating for a small penis and sex drought.

I think that their debut was great. Very few negatives to speak of.

i could never stand Stella myself, mostly the lyrics & the vocal delivery of the chorus... musically it's ok

even PDA, wicked song that is almost ruined by terrible lyrics (chorus especially)

that said, Untitled, NYC, Obstacle 1, & The New are all f'n amazing

I loved Stella. One of my favorites. PDA was by far the worst track to me, and Say Hello To Angels and Roland are both really bad too. But the rest is great; Untitled, Obstacle 1, Stella, Leif Erikson. All great songs.

stella is the best song, with leif erikson a close second. the second half is way better than the first, even with the weakest song on the album (roland)

Ya, sorry, Stella's my favorite on that disc. I still think its a very very good first album. I also could not stand Antics...

There's a handfull of albums made this decade that I would say will stand the test of time, ie more than 5 years.

wtf,

we must have diff copies of the record, cuz Obstacle 1 (easily the best song, anyone who says different is a doo doo head  ), NYC, & Untitled are all in the first half

I love this album to this day, anything they do after it don't make a shit of a difference. TOTBL was fantastic. That is all.

Billiam, all King is saying is that really good albums stand the test of time. How can you disagree with this?

I don't. it's just that he pretty much writes off anything that came out post 00, and just for that reason.

I think Hands Away is a fine song. Love when that keyboard sound comes in.

One of my problems with 00's music is that a lot of it is "indie rock" and sounds like "indie rock" and none of the records really have their own, distinctive sound. It's gotten to where if I see an album described as "indie rock" I will write it off and never listen to it.

Billiam, do you think I would like any of the albums from that list (besides the obvious ones, of course)?

The Constantines- Shine A Light
My Morning Jacket- It Still Moves
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds- Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus
Primal Scream- XTRMNTR
Yo La Tengo- And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
Mclusky- Mclusky Do Dallas
Spoon- Kill The Moonlight
British Sea Power- The Decline of British Sea Power

these the most out of them all. I don't know how many of these you'll have heard, either. The Constantines are a band everyone should hear, hell, even King likes their first two albums. My Morning Jacket sounds like Sigur Ros jamming with Lynyrd Skynyrd. As for Nick Cave, that album might not be his definitive work, but it's the only one of his I've really delved into and I love it. I'm going to go ahead and assume you've heard XTRMNTR but include it in the list just to be on the safe side. I stuck YLT in their because of your love of Talk Talk. They're not that similiar, but that album gives off a similar vibe. Mclusky is straight up kick ass. Spoon is the only one there that might fall into your "indie rock" category, but they're no Death Cab. very sparse intstrumentation, interesteing album while pretty straightforeward at the same time.

as for British Sea Power who've become the hot topic, I included them on the mixtape I sent you last year. If I recall correctly, you liked the tune. you should definitely check out that album.

In a matter of years their audience will be thinned to what Soundgarden's is now.

Leif Erikson is the one song that was actually a genuine Joy Divison rip off. It's the exact same song as Decades.
