This was a great show. I did not know that Hex Machine was opening, and I had no idea who they were. We got there late, but Hex Machine was definitely decent. Next, was Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. I had no idea who this band was either. They were quite good, and they reminded me of Clutch. The lead singer had a very commanding "rock star" presence when on stage which Josh (porchball) mentioned. Very nice surprise this band was. Afterwards, Murder By Death came on stage, and I have a CD of theirs plus a few more songs. They lived up to my expectations although the sound was a bit off with them. I love the girl cello player. Sweet addition. You have to like a band that sounds a bit like Clutch along with rockabilly. Finally, Clutch came on stage as one of many fights continued. Security wasn't very good about stopping fights. Anyway, Clutch were all I expected and more. I was a little let down that more songs weren't played from the album Clutch. I believe Can't Stop Progress started and went into Devil & Me along with a bunch of other great songs. I was glad I knew most of the songs considering I only have three Clutch albums.
It was also great to meet up with friends and people I hadn't seen for awhile who came up to Springfield for the concert. Also, Josh (porchball) and I finally met along with his friend Jeremy. All in all a fantastic night.
Here are the songs I know were played:
You Cant Stop Progress Power Player The Devil And Me Texan Book Of The Dead I Have The Body Of John Wilkes Booth The Regulator Cyprus Grove Bakerton Jam Mercury Profits Of Doom Promoter Bakerton Jam 2 Child Of The City Burning Beard Gravel Road Electric Worry One Eye Dollar
Here are pics, and I apologize for them not being that great. I'll save pics of Josh, Jeremy, and I for the RM pic thread.
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Murder By Death
Clutch

These dudes definitely put on a kick ass show. There wasn't enough from the self titled when I saw them either, but they saved most of it for the encore. I think they know people really want those.
And you got to hear my titular song.

Yeah, the self-titled is probably my favorite. From Beale Street to Oblivion is a great CD, probably my second favorite, so I couldn't complain about them playing songs from it seeing as it was their last released album.
And yep, I heard Mercury.

Drove to Portland last night to see Fu Manchu (who rocked), and am seriously thinking about doing it again next weekend for Clutch. It is a four hour drive though...haven't seen Clutch and really want to.

Clutch is definitely worth putting up with a little BS for.
I don't blame them for playing the Beale Street stuff at all, they just have so much material and I wanted to hear the other stuff as well. I'll go see them again the next time they come through. They're one of the few bands that consistently makes a stop in my neck of the woods.

if you drove that way to see fu manchu you should do the same for clutch. seem them both 3 times, last time i saw fu manchu was the best time, cos QOTSA were playing the same night so it was really quiet and they were taking requests,. but seriously clutch are unbelievable live!!

So I ended up going to the show in Portland Saturday, and WOW!! Every bit as good as I would've expected. As a bonus, my son was with me, and it was his 5th birthday the next day...all the security people thought it was so rad that he was there and rocking out, that after the show they arranged for me and him to meet the band! Neil and Jean-Paul signed a setlist for him, with "Happy 5th birthday Cal!" on it, and gave him some picks and stuff. Way cool guys, and a killer band. And Murder By Death was pretty awesome too!
