I just made it through my first listen. It is better than Psychic Hearts. I dig the acoustic + violin sound. J Mascis rocks on the title track, although I wish it wasn't an instrumental.

Shit, this is fantastic so far. Cosmetically it's totally removed from anything SY have ever put together, in the acoustic & strings arrangements, but it's still got that undeniable Thurston vibe in some of the guitar lines and build ups. This is all good, because one reason I was really too excited for this was because I was expecting SY-lite, but that's certainly not the case.

Damn, color me pleasantly surprised.

If you just want one song try The Shape Is In A Trance. Its worth downloading the whole thing though.

got this off emusic earlier this week and love it so far. of course has a sy vibe to it, and reminds me of some solo frusciante stuff, but better. thurston continues to be one of my fave guitarists ever. the last track is hilarious. THERE!

Despite how much I love SY and anything associated with them (I even bought SYR 5, which is basically a pretentious as hell Kim solo album) I hadn't gotten around to hearing this until yesterday. I was expecting Psychic Hearts 2.0 and I'm really happy with how different this one is. You can really hear what Thurston contributes to Sonic Youth through this album. I hear riffs that could have fit alongside a track like "Stones" or "Rain on Tin", which makes this an album I'll probably listen to over and over again.
