I saw them in Toronto. They are not only good for laughs, they are great musicians. These guys are real entertainers and treat much of the night like a musical. Expect some covers of some classic songs. I got some Zeppelin and The Who covers. They also cover a lot of Beatles as well. My advice to any type of D fan would be to check them out

"Good Times, Bad Times"

"Pinball Wizard/Theres A Doctor/Go to the Mirror"

I have seen that they covered some Beatles like "Carry that Weight" and "the End" as well

I'm seeing the D in a few days. They toured in '02 here & were amazing.
How different is the show now? - in terms of accoustic/electric & 'stage show' effects.

start acoustic and then get a backing band. As for the effects, see for yourself

NEW YORK, March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Following an initial string of dates in May, including an appearance at the Sasquatch Festival in George, WA, Tenacious D will be hitting the road in support of their new album Rize of the Fenix. See below for the full list of cities and dates. Select tickets sales begin Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31, for more information visit http://www.tenaciousd.com.
(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120326/NY76897 )
Rize of the Fenix, Tenacious D's widely-anticipated third album, is available for preorder on the iTunes store. Their first studio album in six years, Rize of the Fenix is the follow-up to 2006's gold The Pick of Destiny and 2001's platinum debut album Tenacious D. The iTunes preorder includes the exclusive track "The 5 Needs" – a classic, never-before recorded Tenacious D song. Also available is the first single "Rize of the Fenix", listen to the track via soundcloud at http://www.tenaciousd.com.
Rize of the Fenix will be available everywhere May 15. Produced by the brilliant John Kimbrough, Rize Of The Fenix was recorded in the garage behind his LA home and features Jack Black and Kyle Gass (Tenacious D's core duo) performing with Dave Grohl (drums), John Spiker (bass, piano, organ), and John Konesky (electric guitar).
The Jeremy Konner directed "To Be The Best" music video expertly sums up the duos six year absence and features cameos from Dave Grohl, Yoshiki, Josh Groban, Jimmy Kimmel, Maria Menounos, Tim Robbins and Val Kilmer. "To Be The Best", the first visual from Rize of the Fenix, premiered today on TheOnion.com, click here to view: http://www.avclub.com/articles/weve-got ... -yo,71465/
