I can see that despite all the claims otherwise there's nothing that great on this one. Working on a Dream was all about Outlaw Pete. Magic was ok I guess, I don't think I'll ever revisit Devils and Dust, but nothing's hitting The Rising levels.

Oh man, "Black Cowboys" is one of the best songs of Springsteen's whole career.
This. The Long Time Comin'/Black Cowboy two punch is amazing.
Magic/Devils & Dust are absolutely terrific. I'll take Magic any day of the week over The Rising.
I've given Wrecking Ball a few listens and there's really nothing there that gets me. As much as i didn't like Working on a Dream, at least it had The Wrestler.
I like quite a bit about D&D, each "almost" solo release has gotten a bit bigger but nothing comparable to work with the band so I was really looking forward to another installment like that.
I've listened to Magic more as of late and do enjoy it, also the shows on that tour were pretty good but, well, most Boss gigs are. Outlaw Pete was often played early so that may not be the best bet for piss-break-track logistically but I agree it did drag.
I really tried to give WOAD a chance, and I'd rather listen to an entire show that included The Wrestler than run that masochistic gauntlet of an album again. Wrecking Ball got its first few spins today, I may revisit it in 2013 but the odds aren't too good there.

Only on my 2nd listen and it's ok. Definitely better than Working on a Dream but far from being as good as Magic was. Really liking "Death To My Hometown".
Well, it's not bad... It is overproduced just like the past records have been. The songs probably sound better live. I'd like hear them more stripped down, and would like the production to breathe a little more. The songs themselves are not bad, though only a few of them stand out after few listens. Right now I would say it's nothing memorable.

The only songs I got from the new album are the former live songs gone studio, Wrecking Ball (which I heard live on the Working On a Dream tour) and Land of Hope and Dreams. I was really skeptical of Hope and Dreams as a studio song, but it was actually REALLY good.

"We Are Alive" and "Death to My Hometown" are both great songs, I think. Matt Chamberlain plays drums on the latter. The rest is okay. I'd give the album as a whole probably a 6 out of 10.

This album is a grower, but it's still a 7/10 at best. That being said, his performances on Jimmy Fallon last week were all top notch. I thought Wrecking Ball was a real highlight.

I really like the record. It's not top notch from start to finish, but it's better than I expected it to be. Can't wait to see him in Paris on July 4th.

Wrecking Ball might be one of the best song they have written. It's also one of the best concert openers.

Yeah i agree with all of this....i have a much greater appreciation for it after a half dozen or so listens but its still one of his lesser albums.
I thought he was tremendous on the Friday night show. Loved the Jack of All Trades performance.

The E-Street Shuffle Performance on Fallon was a prime example why the band is so much fun to see live.

When I saw the band on the Workin' tour, they played all of The River, and then some cool encores. They played No Surrender, which was awesome, and also Sweet Soul Music which they hadnt covered since the Tunnel Express tour, on request. I woulda probably preferred if they only did side A or side B of The River, because my favorite part of concerts is the wild card aspect, and it left almost no room for setlisting... and there was no Darkness, Prove it All Night, or Promised Land...
