This single, well, it's time for Bruce to send E street on its way...he can still do the acoustic thing in many beautiful ways, but it's time to hang the rocker up full time. This song is really really beneath him.
You can't say that after one song. Not to mention how great the live shows are.
You've both got a point. He should do acoustic solo albums and nostalgia-onlly tours with E-Street. Ha!
I wouldn't want him to give up the solo shows...i saw him on the Devils & Dust tour and he was incredible.
I guess he could open for the E Street shows.
Lord knows he has the live stamina, the recent shows I've attended have been fantastic. I take albums and gigs quite separately, and though I haven't absolutely fuckin' loved the last few records there were some good tunes that got worked into the live set that incorporates over 35 years of music quite well.
I will add that this song didn't immediately grab me but I have only heard about 70% the other morning so I'll reserve all my judgment.
I'd also love another (semi)solo acoustic album soon, but who wouldn't?

What Bruce needs to make at this point in his career is exactly not a Bruce Springsteen record.
I mean, if you're Bruce, you can make any record in the world....create any sound or combine any words....and know that several hundred thousand people will buy it minimum. You also know that your legacy is secured, your value is decided, and your bank account is safe.
With that kind of opportunity, is this really the record that you make?

The new song keeps growing on me. It will be good live. I'm just glad Bruce still wants to release albums, and the more with the ESB the better. Though I love the solo stuff too.

Bruce Springsteen should make the records Bruce Springsteen wants to make. If this is really the kind of music he wants to make, then that's all that matters, and I'm not going to stop him.

Hey there. Thank ya. Good to be around. I've not been around much due to very little internet time over the summer and now the last two months dealing with my uncle being in the hospital because of tetanus. Finding a little time to be here and there.

If the kind of music you want to make is exactly the music you've made, not once but numerous times, then either your desire for the reward of acceptance has outgrown all other desires....or you're just tired.

The mystery of popular music reduced to a totally random false dichotomy! Thanks!

I'm gonna try my hardest to make at least two of those dates. Probably the CA shows most likely, but maybe Boston and Philly. It will be tough though since I just took off two months from work to be with my uncle.

My pal Jake just got Clarence's job he most recently played with Ed&Glen in Philly this past summer on 'drive all night'
Clarence Clemons' Nephew Jake Clemons Joins the E Street Band Jake will play as part of a five-piece horn section on the 'Wrecking Ball' tour Bruce Springsteen has announced that Jake Clemons - the nephew of former E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons - will be taking over some of his late uncle's sax dutues on the forthcoming "Wrecking Ball" Tour. Ed Manion, an original member of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes (and a member of Springsteen's Session Band), will also play saxophone on the tour, although it's not yet clear how they'll divide the parts. They will perform alongside trombonist Clark Gayton and trumpeters Curt Ramm and Barry Danielian. Back-up singers Cindy Mizelle and Curtis King will also be joining the band for the tour, which launches March 9th at the Apollo Theater.
Jake Clemons is an accomplished saxophone player who has guested with the E Street Band on numerous occasions and has also performed with the Swell Season and Nancy Atlas. In 1992, he played the sax alongside his uncle at Bill Clinton's inauguration.
This is not the first time that a young family member of the E Street Band filled in for their relative. Max Weinberg's 18-year-old son Jay performed with the group on their 2009 tour when Max's Conan O'Brien duties took him away from the tour.
In July Jake wrote about his uncle's death on his blog. "It's a strange new world without Clarence," he wrote. "He has given so much through the years, and now we are left with a gaping Big Man sized hole in the universe. Yet, as his gift continues to inspire, and as well all continue to process the vast changes of our reality, I again turn to music. It's what I have. It's what he gave me from the first moment of seeing him on stage. It's what he's left me with now, and the closeness and the love he and I shared will always remain captured in a moment through pursed lips on a metal mouthpiece."
Here is video of Jake performing the Bruce Springsteen classic "Drive All Night" with The Swell Season.
