Now we return to the mixing. Only two songs to go and this album is done. Have a Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. We hope to see some of you on the 31st in NYC.

Hello December. We're heading back into the studio to mix the record. We'll be in New York right up until Christmas. The record is slated to come out at the end of May. We don't have a title for it as of yet, we're still trying to figure out what to name the songs, most of which have only had 'working titles' up until now. As for what the record sounds like, well it just doesn't seem fair to ruin the surprise. Happy Holidays and all that.

10/27
Sleater-Kinney have signed to Sub Pop Records. We are very excited about our new label and are looking forward to working with all of the wonderful people there.

On November 5th, Sleater-Kinney will begin recording a new album with producer Dave Fridmann at Tarbox Road Studios in rural New York. We will spend much of November and December working on the record, with hopes of releasing it in late spring/early summer 2005.

I have high expectations for this album.

I'm a huge SK fan so I'm really excited for the album. I think they're all very intriging, especially Corin. She's so nice to talk to in person but Carrie scares me a little, nice but wierd looking.

They started recording on my birhday, so.. uh, by some weird twist of fate it's gotta be good.

A brief update:

The album is called The Woods.

It should come out on the 24th of May 2005.

It was produced by David Fridmann.

I'm excited. :D

Hello everyone. I was remembering the updates I used to write on the Kill Rock Stars page and realized that I missed a longer format with which to communicate what is going on. I admit to much tomfoolery back then, and cannot guarantee that I won't succumb to the urge, but I'll start out straight up.

First off, why didn't Paul Giamatti get an Oscar nomination? Second, why hasn't 'Million Dollar Baby' come to Portland yet? Portland is considered either a bastion of cultural promise or a small town. Apparently, the distributor of this Eastwood film considers us the latter.

As for S-K, we have approved a mastered version of the CD and are now moving onto art work. The period between when we record and when the album is released is a nebulous one. We end up feeling a bit disconnected from the feeling of playing and creating, which is why I thought I'd write this in the interim. Plus, it has been a while since we've toured, which aside from writing songs and putting out records, is the reason we play music. When we don't tour, we don't connect with the people that listen to us. It all begins to feel a bit abstract.

The recording went really well. We were nervous to work with someone new but that quickly dissipated once we arrived in Fredonia. Dave Fridmann is masterful, and he understands our sonic intent better than almost anyone we've worked with. He pushed us and challenged us and I think it paid off. We wanted to make something different, we always do, but for the first time, I think we actually have. I'll be brief in my descriptions about the sound: heavy, raw, psychedelic. I don't want to describe anything in too much detail. I am tired of explaining art instead of just experiencing it. Music is such a personal thing and we often deny ourselves the wonder of living in the moment; whether it's with our own art or with someone else's art; we are too busy capturing it, intellectualizing it, or trying to explain to other people why it moved us or why it did not. And then the moment is gone. I want to be able to live in the moment for a while before it gets eaten up by discourse.

We went through a lot of changes in the last year. Julie (our publicist and friend) retired from the business. And we switched labels. Sub Pop has been great. They didn't know what songs we took into the studio and we never played them the demos we did in our practice space. We mixed and sequenced the record with Dave and handed it over to Sub Pop completely finished. We crossed our fingers that they would like it and they did. We've greatly appreciated their complete trust in our vision.

We are looking forward to the record coming out, to share it with our friends and our fans; for them to have their own experiences with it, whatever those are, and they will certainly vary. The album title is 'The Woods'. We know May 24th is a long time to wait, for us as well, so please be patient.

We look forward to seeing many of you on our upcoming travels. Thanks for your support. I hope everyone is happy and healthy and still up for the struggle of just being alive right now. Peace.

xoCarrie

i said it before and I will say it again, this will be one of the top 5 albums this year. Mars Volta is in there too and if PJs comes out this year they will be. Now the next two are yet to be determined.
