I had never really listened to any Dinosaur Jr. but I kept hearing Feel the Pain on Sirius and then I heard it in a bar last weekend - and I love it

...so I figured now's a good a time as any to check these guys out...this thread is gold

I hope so. I saw them a few months ago in New York. Didn't seem louder than say, Sonic Youth or QOTSA. Maybe I've already damaged my hearing. :?

There's a live show from November 2007 on Dime, it's really cool check it out.
And Ledbetter10, yes they're a great band . I love Beyond, their last album, it's the more accessible and a fine way to begin with them (at least, I've started this way)

Well, it was loud. The set was a little heavy with new material, but thats ok. Gargoyle closed the main set, then we got In A Jar and Just Like Heaven for the encore.

I decided to stick around to see it I could meet the guys. Lou was coming down some steps, signing cds, but then shot out the other door before I met him. Murph walked by me exclaiming, "Where is Loubicore?" but I hardly recognized him in his hat. I hung around for a while with some other people until we got kicked out of the venue. No sign of J. I can't see him being the most receptive person to meet fans though. And he was baked when he walked out on stage. Still a great show.

I just saw these guys about ten days ago in Pittsburgh. Great show...very, very, very loud, but very good. Nice setlist to...about 4 or 5 songs from the new album, then it was all from the first three albums plus Feel the Pain, The Wagon, and Out There.

I stood in the back of the venue was hard of hearing for 2 days. I'm not sure how people up front weren't in severe pain.

You're Living all over Me, or Bug probably. I prefer YLaoM, but they're both great.

YLAOM might be my favorite album of all time, but I'd recommend Where You Been or Green Mind for an introduction. They're a little more accessible.

I got into Dinosaur Jr with their last album (beyond) and I think that's the one really accessible. Where you been is also a great starting point.

I agree with punkdavid

YLAOM is probalby my fav but for a new listener get Where ya been.

After you hear the opening guitar hook on the first song on that album you'll be a fan for life.
