Yup, they are a little too boring. Some ok songs. Definately way to hyped up.

I haven't really listened to their third album yet.

I'm gonna be honest, The Shins are really boring. Over half of their songs don't go anywhere at all and just repeat the same four chords and stupid vocals over and over. Granted, they have some great tracks, but the majority of their catalogue is really really boring.

As was pointed out in the cover story about The Shins in Paste a couple months ago, Zach Braff did the biggest simultaneous favor and disservice for The Shins with the infamous "change your life" scene (which has already been joked about in this thread) in Garden State. As result, it seems as if the awareness factor for them became too big for their music. Without it, they'd just be this little indie band in Oregon that people who'd really dig them would eventually find through word-of-mouth (or the digital age equivalent: the iTunes/Amazon/etc. recommendations based on your prior purchases). As it is, they are very polar.....

Ah, fuck it. What am I? Writing an essay? In the "get them/love them" or "don't get them/kind of boring" categories, I'd fall in the latter. However, "Phantom Limb" grew on me even if I only initially listened to it thinking it was going to be an homage to Venture Bros..

I couldn't get into them. Brutally boring.

First two albums were great. The new one is overproduced and shitty.

The first time I heard "New Slang" was when I saw the music video which was a bonus on some surf documantary dvd my brother had. I went out and bought the cd after hearing it.

But yea, hipsters started hating after Garden State, the way that they do best.

I doubt you'll hear too many better songs on the radio this year than Turn On Me.

Surprisingly, the hipsters here seem to really dig them still. They turned rabid on Sleater-Kinney though, whose shows weren't even selling out here until they announced their hiatus.

I had a friend refer to them as a great example of "indie pop". What? It's JUST FUCKING POP MUSIC! I mean, they're good and all...but nothing super special, and certainly not life-changing.

The first two records are really, really great, but the producing and moody atmosphere turn me off of the third.

Though it does have some great songs.

I don't think I've listened to the Shins since I made this thread.

Still listen to "Oh, Inverted World" occasionally, but my enjoyment of them has waned. Hated "Port of Morrow."
