Is it just me or is this the most overused label in music history. When I think metal I think Megadeath, early Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron maiden........ but when people start throwing groups in there like Def Leppard, All the 80's hair "metal" bands and such I just don't get it. Basically I made this thread so I would have something to agree with GEG on although he probably won't think that any of the bands I listed are metal but I think he will agree that this term "metal" is way overused.

It is overused, especially in cases like "hair metal" or "nu metal". If you consider this things bad or good, their still not metal. They're in reality oxymorons, like "prog rock" for example is an oxymoron.

Def Leppard is more "butt rock" than "hair metal". WASP was hair metal.

I have only two ratings to keep it easy, it's either rock or shit.

Rock covers a whole load of music to be easier. So does shit but that's another story.
