I'm sure there will be arguments about the number 1 slot, but I could care less about the band myself. I'd throw in Kiss and ACDC if i could, and probably a number of newer bands today. Proud to say that I don't listen to any one of these artists.
Those of you who proudly listen to Rush at top volume in your car all summer long, (ie thereby displaying the total lack of guilty in your pleasure), take note:? Rush come in at Number One on our official list of the Rock’s Undisputed Guilty Pleasure Bands. Like the rest of the acts on our list (which you helped put together), we love them to death, and can never forgive ourselves. The full list:
1. Rush 2. E.L.O. 3. Journey 4. ABBA 5. Chicago 6. Boston 7. Foreigner 8. Bread 9. Bon Jovi 10. New Edition 11. The Monkees 12. Motley Crue 13. STYX 14. Eddie Money 15. Simply Red 16. Kelly Clarkson 17. America 18. Wham 19. R.E.O. Speedwagon 20. Poison 21. Lionel Richie 22. Kansas 23. Air Supply 24. Hall & Oates 25. Britney Spears

As if there is no reason to feel guilty for listening to anything Rolling Stones reviews or even mentions. It's ok to listen to Bob Dylan and U2 and The Killers, but Rush and Journey are guilty pleasures! Haha, gimme a fucking break.

It's Bob Fucking Dylan. Sometimes I don't even think the Beatles should be compared to him. He stands alone.
B-hed, this has less to do with quality of music and more to do with bands that have a horribly cheesy image or presentation, but have still pumped out some tunes that almost everyone likes.

Ya know, King is actually bringing up a really good point here, one that I have tried to say before.
Everyone worships Dylan for his "AMAZING INCREDIBLE INSPIRATIONAL lyrics", but all he is is a subpar poet. Compared to real poets, he isn't squat, and comparatively the intellectual value of his lyrics is a drop in the bucket. And then he adds some exhaustingly basic music to his subpar poetry and people go fucking nuts. I can understand liking it for an album or 2 - maybe even 5, but when you release 30whatever albums and people are still foaming at the mouth for a new one, there is a definite problem.

If you replace Lenny Bruce for Bob Dylan in this rambling it might make a little sense.
Honestly, Bob Dylan is miles behind an act such as The Smashing Pumpkins in terms of cheesiness and homosexuality.
Quite possibly, but the Pumpkins weren't part of the conversation until now.
Well, you had a case with U2 and The Killers. Not so much The Killers, though. They don't have the legions of die-hards that Bon Jovi, Journey, Foreigner, Chicago, Motley Crue and the likes do.
Whether or not you think Dylan is the man or a complete joke, I don't think it would make sense to label him as a guilty pleasure.

What really cracks me up is when people will start talking about the huge variety of his music. Just like when people do it with Johnny Cash. Like there is this huge stylistic difference between folk and folk-rock, or folk-rock and folk-country or whatever they call it.
Give me a fucking break. Half of the albums I own have more variety and intermixed genres than Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash's entire catalog.

Fair enough. Can't expect the Killers to have a fanbase like that because they are much newer, but anyway the point remains.
And yeah, Dylan is a bit different, maybe he doesn't match those listed bands in some of their qualities, but there are plenty of other reasons why it's ridiculous that they are guilty pleasures over him. Of course Dylan was just an example, like I said, almost any of the bands Rolling Stone mentions could be considered for the same distinction.
